KOLE Port Arthur "Stunting"

Speaking of Port Arthur whats the info on 170.1? Are they located in PA? What format are they?

I take it you mean 107.1 (darn lydexsia :).....Yep they in PA....had their studios in city hall but they said some things about city gov recently and the council voted their a$$ out the door....so they are looking for a new studio location.....they CLAIM they are going to move to a Class A on 88.7 (there goes KUHF reception) but the truth is they are one of 6 or so APPLICANTS...no one has been issued a license and its a good change THEY (107.1) wont get to move...plus eventually 107.1 willl be run off the air but a proposed Class A on 107.1 over in La.

As to format, its all over the road.....block formatting comes to mind :) One hour Jass, the next R&B, the next Vietnamese, etc...No stereo, using a 15k phone circuit for STL when a RF signals would be doable and cheaper (the xmtr site is a single bay on the water tower at Pioneer Park next to St Mary's hospital) and half the time they do NOT ID legally....possibly MOST of the time but they dont when I am listening.....hmmmm

According to the Asset Purchase Agreement filed with the FCC, Sima Birach DID purchase the Sawyer Street studios and all the equipment from Ralph McBride. Why move the studios? Why run an audio loop? What's next for KOLE? Will it go silent? Inquiring minds want to know.

Ran across this Beaumont Enterprise article . It says they are moving their studios
to somewhere on US-90 but little more is said about the station.

Yeah, a guy from the Enterprise emailed me wanting some info for the story....but I didnt get the email until late Monday (but he only sent it earlier that day) and it was to a secondary address I posted here. The story ran before I could reply.....however moving studios to anywhere along 90 will be tricky...start to get out of city grade coverage for KOLE in Beaumont....at night, starts to get impossible to listen to (heck KLVI at 1KW omni at night could not be heard at the Sawyer St building and that was back in the 70s!).....mid county would have been better....still say a trailer at the tower would have been quick, easy, and they wouldnt be off the air...

I dont recall any local paper saying anything when 1380 left town....or that 1150 is off and dead or that 990 sucks audio wise...or ........oh never mind :)

When you have the Beaumont Enterprise and Port Arthur News as your main newspapers, you shouldn't expect much in the way of 'news'.

Well you have a point there Stan...when I used to deliver the PA News in the 70s as a kid, it was BIGGER than the Chronicle is NOW...of course Houston had the Post as well which I liked better...the print and color was better...now the PA NEws is a daly local RAG of a newspaper....the Enterprise is better.....but not as good as it used to be....little news, almost NO comics, and lots of news doesnt get reported.....(I even offered to help as a non paid reporter talking on TV and radio happenings...you see how far that got!)
BUT lets face it, the area has been in the toilet for the last 10+ yrs or so......now even the local ham radio clubs are starting to become CB type clubs and I heard trying to throw out an old member because he stirred the pot up by trying to IMPROVE things....HORRORS!!!

Moving the studios to "highway 90" doesn't make any sense. I suppose it could be along College street somewhere, but the transmitter is down in Port Arthur. Wouldn't it make sense to drag a trailer down there so they could get on the air? Birach must have made his money doing something other than broadcasting....

I saw yesterday where former PD and morning host Dominick Brasicia (sp?) Is working at a talk station in Alabama during drive time.
