KIRO and KOMO will be headbutting each other with one on 97.3 and the other on 97.7 . I wonder how this will play out?

Eagle 97.7 has a monster signal in Seattle and almost to Portland, pretty much the same as KNBQ-FM which is gets about a 1.5-1.9 share as the third country cowboy in the market Doesn't go past Everett, but covers big part of the town so I wonder if KIRO-FM will go back to simulcasting on AM to compete ??? Maybe seperate just for the Mariners and Seahawks games ??? Seems like a smart move to add a couple of shares to the KOMO signal, which I can't pick up too well on the South End. I wonder if KJR-AM will do the same thing with the KNBQ country signal ??? Don't need a third country and KIRO would be a sweating cowpie with an AM/FM KOMO attacking their FM only news station and an AM/FM KJR sports station attacking their AM only sports station This are heatin up in Seattle again

Just lookin at 25-54 and 35-64 numbers which I believe is the ole target demo In Winter KNBQ did a bit over a one share and 97.7 did almost a one, so why wouldn't KJR-AM think of simulcasting on KNBQ-FM since a third country ain't really a factor. Would make life a bit more fun for KMPS and THE WOLF. I agree that KIRO will wait for the PPM before reacting, but if it doesn't look good watch out ;D

By the looks of the KFMY Construction Permit, their 60dBU contour doesn't quite reach downtown Seattle. Looks like excellent coverage due South, but there isn't much upside for a station KOMO's size in that area anyway.
The coveted east side is either fringe or completely shadowed.

They could probably get a Seattle booster on the same 97.7 frequency, that would help. But KFMY begins to fizzle badly in south Snohomish County and by the time you get to Everett via 97.7, you may as well have gone to Quebec as French language CBUF totally dominates 97.7 in downtown Everett on north. Maybe an Everett booster on 97.7 too to round it out would be in order....
An engineer cohort of mine says because they have a directional null going north, that they can't extend their coverage with boosters. That makes sense I guess.
On the ratings front, the strong South Sound FM stations like Spanish 99.3, KFNK, KNBQ and KFMY and KXXO in a good book get about a 1.5 share 25-54 down to a 0.5 share in a bad book. In a simulcast this would give KOMO AM/FM an extra share point 25-54 as a best guess. It certainly can't hurt their effort to battle KIRO, which is now a standalone FM, and could help KOMO especially in Pierce, Kitsap, Thurston and South King County, which are all part of the Seattle book.
I bet KOMO wanted to put their signal on KPLZ after seeing the success of KIRO as an AM/FM combo. While KPLZ is nothing to brag about 12+, the station was number one in 25-54 women in the Winter book and top five in 25-54 adults, which I believe easily beat KRWM in the key demos. I also know it is one of the better revenue stations in the market. Kind of hard to blow up the number one station 25-54 women in the market. It was a much easier decision for Bonneville to blow up an Oldies station.
In the case of KIRO, now they have split the AM and FM. The PPM ratings over time will tell whether that was smart, or they should have stayed at the top of the market in a simulcast. I wonder if by splitting you will end up with two mediocre stations, instead of one great one with a full market AM/FM combo and the Mariners. That is for you programming types to debate. KOMO's move seems to have no downside, since the didn't blow up KPLZ and could have some upside if the south county FM can deliver a share point or two in demo. Most interesting move in this market since Clear Channel grabbed KBKS from CBS. It has been a dull year. I bet after a few months of PPM things could get interesting again.

BTW, there isn't anything stopping Fisher from an LMA on the Cougar 104.5 to cover the eastside/ Snohomish Co. part not covered by 97.7.

Hopefully, they will put a translator in Vancouver, WA. The loss of KIRO-AM makes it hard to receive Washington State news there.

Lost it around Longview so it doesn't get to Vancouver, WA folks. Course most Seattle stations die out after Centralia 8) Some die in Seattle and you hear em loud and clear ;D
