KOOL Cuts Jack?

Reading about the C(BS) cuts in DFW today (including 16-year KLUV
middayer Debi Diaz) made me want to check the KOOL-FM website,
and it appears Dan Mason and his bean counters have struck for a
fourth(?) time this year at KOOL.

Camelback Jack Dean may be gone. :(

Jack's been at KOOL since--IIRC--1992, and in PM drive since 1996.

He's no longer in the "on air" dropdown menu, nor on the page when
you click "on air"--there's no listing for PM drive. Even more telling
is the photos page in the features section. You click on Veterans
Day and you get 404ed, and Jack was a huge contributor to it.

If anyone has concrete info to the contrary, please correct my
speculation by posting it.

Oh crap, this just got worse.

KMLE PM driver Stu Evans (mega years there too) is missing
from the KMLE website.

More BS from CBS.

Why can't we fire Redstone, Moonves and Mason? You could
hire back a lot of good air talent in the chain from the money
those clowns are getting.

Not that I listen to these two stations but this sux

As I said in my previous post, radio is becoming so jukebox like and there really is no need to tune in just to hear the same ol songs over and over again

Let me see if I've got this right...

KMLE and KOOL - the two cash cows of CBS Phoenix - can't afford to keep their heritage afternoon jocks.

Yet Jamz - the third wheel of CBS Phoenix - can afford to hire a heritage afternoon jock.

Yeah...that makes sense! ???

It's official. Camelback Jack and Big Shoes Stu are no longer in the building at CBS.

Time to face facts: in a ppm world the more we know the jock the lower the ppm ratings. huge names being dropped from dial positions across the country as we learn that the people that tune in to fm radio do it for 1 reason: THE MUSIC. as a former jock- i admit our craft has gone the way of the shoe cobbler. these are less "cost cuts" and more of "shut up and play the songs".

Why doesn't cbs just put a fork in jamz admit they made a mistake and move on. It is apparent all there problems are coming from the ill fated jamz and cbs continues to justify it by letting go staff at the other stations makes no sense. People are now suffering because some suit won't admit a mistake or correct it fine let cbs phoenix cease to exist for all i care!!!

Anyone that works for cbs phoenix i would be getting my aircheck out there to whomever and whereever!!!

kzon was put on to fill a huge chr/rhyth hole in the market. it did. 350k listeners in book 4 show the hole. also- reports i see show that they bill less than kiss but more that kkfr. i'm sure they kill the billing of the former 'free'...but not beat the howard era. kkfr spends its entire day trying to defend it's titanic slip in 18-34 rank since they dropped to 30k watts. face it: beating kzon is all that matters to a once proud, heritage big dog. 2nd place was not acceptable to kkfr pre 30k watts. now 8th is.

Sorry I'm joining the conversation a little late.
But now they've cut Jack Dean and Stu Evans RIGHT BEFORE Christmas?!!?!? Wow, that's cold. A while back someone posted a list of all of the people canned from the CBS cluster and it's sad to see how much good talent AND good people they've let go. Now they've removed another 2 people who have helped make KOOL and KMLE the stations they are. Maybe I'm wrong, but it almost looks like they're setting these stations up to fail so they can sell them off cheap. As a retired jock I have to wonder how the GM and PD of these stations even sleep at night? (probably fine since they still have a job) Pleasant dreams suits.

You kzon apologists kill me with your lies about that station and how well they are doing!!!U can spin there numbers however you like will not change the fact they will evertually get blown up and will not be missed!!!

I feel sorry for anyone that works for cbs phoenix the clock is ticking. How do you even know if you have a job at your station tomorrow???

Mark Waters and Byron Kennedy won't take responsibilty for their own mistakes. That's why so many people are being cut from CBS. They blame air personalities for lack of numbers and blow them out so they can keep their pretty paychecks. Fact of the matter is Mark Waters is not the "genius" GM he claims to be. And Byron is just an idiot who thinks he's a radio guru when hip hop music is what made his career and not his ideoligies. How hard is it to program a hip hop station really.

Like jury duty, they have a special number you call in to see if you have to report today.

(Only kidding)

[I think]

Not KOOL! Jack and Stu are class acts that have contributed more that just personality. It's a real shame for the station and a loss for the community.

what cuts have hurt? KMLE is #1 and KOOL #3. the bill gardner loss? didn't matter. these cuts won't either. ppm baby. deal w/ it.

Well, for what it's worth, this "KOOL Listener <not> Lauren" has removed 94.5 off all his radio pre-sets.

So with PPM people only want a jukebox on the radio?? Even though they could put their own plalylist on all the time they would perfer to have radio that plays the same crappy songs all the time with commercials on top of that?? Hmmmm that is very sad. For me to tune into FM radio these days, I want to hear what someone has to say not the same ol music. I even had this discussion with a few non radio geeks and they agree with me. Sad sad very sad

What does PPM stand for? Sorry if that was a dumb question...

Portable People Meter.

Though I prefer the nick "Purple People Meter" so I can tie it in to a Sheb Wooley
song played on Lumberyard 1440. KOOL wouldn't be caught dead playing it, and
frankly I wouldn't blame them. There's enough blame to pass around at the local
C(BS) cluster and at corporate, starting with the market manager. As before,
I think PD Kris' hands were tied as this latest bloodbath no doubt came from above
his level in the food chain.

My wife just took KMLE off her presets after I told her Stu was gone. Can't say that I will be tuning in either. Except maybe to hear the person who takes Stu's slot.

Looks like all the Christmas music on KOOL was a cover-up so they could clean house. Wonder if they'll still have the same music when they come back on December 26th. I know Camelback Jack was a huge 70's guy. It is beyond me why CBS is messing with a station like KOOL when it was #2 in the ratings behind 550 KFYI. Makes no sense.

Also, isn't this a horrible time of year to be let go? Merry Chirstmas, your fired!
