KOOL Cuts Jack?

From what I recall, Randy was getting out of the business all together. Did it for quite some time, and was even the PD of KZZP at one point, I believe. I think he went by the name Randy Stewart for most of his radio career, but went by Randy Stevens, since there was already a Jay Steward on the air at the time at KOOL.

Maybe the imfamous, KOOL Listener Lauren will remember him...

Any votes for the BEST KOOL DJ of all time?

I've gotta go with Sammy Sherwood, here!

Infamous KOOL Listener Lauren? I beg to differ. It's extremely rare to find someone of such a young age who is so passionate about radio - particularly personality-oriented radio. It seems that an increasing number of her peers don't even own a radio. What will happen to the industry when this group enters the cherished money demos?

And on top of that, Lauren strikes me as a very friendly, classy individual who has her priorities straight - again, different from so many others her age.

Now this definitely rings a bell--Anita Ward's or Irene Cara's. :D

Randy Stewart was PD at "KZZP Mesa, KZZP-FM Mesa/Phoenix" (as they voiced
their legal ID) circa 1981. He did middays, sandwiched between Brandmeier and
Goddard (Steve, not Terry).

Then I Google "randy stewart +kzzp" and find this:

Which leads to this:

Lots of Johnny & The Leisure Suits stuff.

Was the Randy Stewart/Stevens stint at KOOL later in the 80s?

No, no, please don't misunderstand, I think Lauren is great and agree with all the great things people have said about her!

Since she knew so much about KOOL, I thought she'd be able to add to the discussion.

I agree, I think it's awesome she has the passion for radio we all do, at such a young age.

One question for Lauren, with all the changes at KOOL and as she gets older, will she change to KISS Listener Lauren or Mix Listener Lauren?!?

The Nurse and I suspect it'll be either Lumberyard Lauren or Lamptimer Lauren. Either way, 14 in a row from the daytime Gold Mine beats the same 12 Xmas songs over and over!

IreneCaraFan-- "infamous" KOOL Listener Lauren is stumped, because I've never heard of the name! But I agree with you that Sammy Sherwood was great. I could never say who the "best" is, because I have my opinions on "best" DJs for specific dayparts-- it wouldn't be just one.

Justthenumbers-- What great compliments! Thank you for sticking up for me here. I'm thinking the original statement was meant well and just a joke. I haven't even gotten my foot in the door yet! Believe it or not, being "infamous" was actually something I sometimes joked about to people in the business who SOMEHOW (still don't know how) knew just by the name of Lauren that I must be the Lauren from Radio-Info. It's still a mystery to me (How do you guys do it?).

Speaking of college student terrestrial radio listeners-- What I've found out from my own personal experience would contradict what others have been saying recently about what PPM results have "discovered", and support what I've been saying for quite a while. I've yet to see the research results on their claims. I'm thinking it must just be talk. In a video I presented to 40+ students about radio, the feedback of it and what I included (clips of classic radio airchecks, like WFIL) was wonderful! Their only complaint was that it wasn't their kind of music. Understandable... I guess. ;D

No, IreneCaraFan, I don't plan on it! I could give my whole history of when I listened to what, but I wouldn't want MondayMorningQB (first time poster) to read too much into my post. ::) To make a long story short, I WAS a Mix listener already (10 years ago). That lasted a couple years, and I loved the 80s then. I went on to a couple of others, but KOOL's been the station I've listened to longest. Began in '03 (just listening to Bill Gardner), and by '04 got hooked to the station itself! Basically, the trend of my choice in music has gone back in time, the older I get. But here, it will stay! :)

Now... back to Camelback Jack!

He wrote a wonderful thank you and goodbye letter. After ten months of sugar-coating, at last the real reasons are being presented to the listeners. But really, I think the letter was so wonderfully written!

Even though the KOOL morning show website blog from Friday said
"we'll be back next year" (inferring they'll be on vacation), Maria is
on solo (and live) this morning and mentioned Tom being on vacation.

Let me modify that statement in that she was definitely live until 9,
is still on as of 10:58, but has sounded voicetracked after 9.

Psst, Memorex Maria*--today's the 22nd, not the 21st. ;)

And now at 11:01 it's about the 270th spin of Wonderful Christmastime
on KOOL since they went KESZ clone. ::)

*: Yeah, I know it's a dated reference, but the alliteration works better
than "Audio Vault Maria." ;)
