I just found out that one of the sweetest, most caring friends of both yours and mine on the planet, was injured in a car accident this afternoon.
KOOL Listener Lauren will be ok, after she got banged up pretty badly while on her three hour break from ASU, when a truck suddenly made a left hand turn in front of her and she had no time to stop, but she sure flattened the brakes trying.
Both air bags of the car she loves so much and has taken meticulous care of (she won it on the night of her high school graduation) may have been totalled. The front end is a mess, she tells me.
An EMT, three cars behind Lauren, helped her after she got out of the car. She sat on a bail of hay that the truck driver had pulled from his truck, and the kind female EMT made sure that Lauren was still and not moving her neck. Paramedics came and took her to the hospital for observation and her mom arrived and took her home.
For anyone who has been in an airbag deployment, not a pleasant experience, and Lauren, frankly, is lucky to be alive. Her right wrist is swollen to heck and so is her right arm. She'll be feeling a lot more by this time tomorrow.
For those who love Lauren, as I do, please drop her a get well note here on the board and on her Facebook page, please? I know (and so do you,) that she would so appreciate hearing from all of her friends in the Valley of the Sun.
She's afraid of losing her much loved car, but I told her that the Media Hut with Dr. Akbar and Nurse Jeff might help her with a Gremlin all waxed and shined for her. Her response ... well, there was no response, except dial tone.
She will, we pray, be ok ... but she's going to hurt for awhile. Her blood pressure went all to heck and she's still pretty shook up and a lot scared ... so, she'd love to hear from you becasue she cares so much about you guys on this board and we all care so much for KOOL Listener Lauren.
She says she did get a chance to turn off her car before she got out of the car, so, aside from a hood, frame straigteninglights, a radiator, grill fenders and ... well, maybe there is a little hope for her car. If not, I know we can help her get some wheels, I hope.
Thanks, guys, and I really appreciate your help -- as does our dear friend, KOOL Listener Lauren. Let's show her how much we care, OK? We love you, Lauren! Get well soon.
Warmly,
Joe
