KOOL Radio

I'm with you Lauren. I thought Liz Boyle was a shoo in for KOOL middays. Surprisingly, Kris "Brought Back the Fun" Abrams overlooked one of the best.
Maybe he should be redubbed: Kris "Brought Back the Fun and then Lost Some Again" Abrams. Boyle is no longer with the station as far as I can tell.

There's only one Lee "Baby", Salesman2000... and that's Lee "Baby" Sims. .. Any other "Baby" is just outdated veal... Liz Boyle is one of the best oldies jocks in the country... regardless of gender... she's left KOOL again?...Lee Bortel, Mike Patrick, Steve Goddard, any of the three would be likely to get the job and sound ok.

Not gonna happen. They'd never hire a woman for that shift/format. That's how it's been on KOOL for decades. Last lady jock I can remember fulltime on KOOL was CJ Brown, and that was over a decade ago. Look for someone with a very deep voice. My bets are on Lee Baby and Mike Patrick.

So you're saying nothing in radio ever changes?

From what I've heard of the past, I think I know why there's been no full-time female on-air personalities on KOOL for a while... Or in some instances, period(s) of none at all. But I won't go there. It's not like it's a "rule" for future KOOL PD's to follow. Never hire a woman? That's ridiculous! If you have the talent, you have the talent. Kris Abrams doesn't have to do what every PD in the past did. He should be proud of being the program director of one of the best radio stations in the country (which I'm sure he is), and not let gender be the reason for his choices (IF what Salesguy said is the case...). It ain't the 50's anymore.

Maria Knight is full time and female. ::) She was a great addition to the morning show and sounds even better now that Bill (did you know I was a pilot?) Gardner is gone. The morning show with Tom, Maria and John is fabulous and a breath of fresh air to an otherwise stale morning show market.
Keep up the great work at KOOL. The ratings with reflect that rookie morning show soon. You watch and see. ;D

Anybody want to make any bets? ??? ?

My bet is Steve Goddard!!

Could there be a better fit? I don't think so... My first gig 26 years ago (has it really been 26 years already?)
was running "Goddard's Gold"!! on zzp.

What could be more fun than Steve on the station he should have been on for years already. I just wish we were working together again... who knows (we can all pick our dream-team right?) anyway... I have not talked to Steve in about 5 weeks so I am taking all bets in cash or smokes! ;D Time for another 4 traffic reports take care!

...and unless someone can name me a gal whos had their own jock show fulltime on KOOL in the past 15 years...

Angela Allen.

Twice.

Though the first gig (middays) was in the late '80s, so that's more or less
twenty years ago. She returned around 1993 (guesstimate) for evenings.

Is Angela still on Radio Free Phoenix?

Lauren, you never cease to amaze with your brilliant input, passion for both radio and KOOL, your positive energy and your smarts. Somehow, you're going to end up at KOOL and that would be "a good thing." You're going places, young lady! Good for you.

Now, pull some strings and get Dan Mason to rethink ... and get Bill Gardner back and off the beach! A good "KOOL" summer to you!

We enjoy Lauren because of her passion. That's why we enjoy radio talents like Liz. I've listened to her since she did nights on KDKB. Maria is the funniest woman on radio. The chemistry between them all is really funny.

So the Tim and Willy rumor isn't true?

As someone who's been PD to both Liz and Maria, I agree.

Our friendly competitors at KOOL are about to get another top notch talent, too...

All Access has additionally noted that Mr. & Mrs. W.I. Goddard's son
will be doing middays at KOOL. (Starting when...Monday?)

Just in case anyone thought his crossing the street might result in
some jock shifts being swapped.

Check out koolradio.com

They've "PIMPED" it up! It was for a couple of weeks including yesterday when I was wondering when they'll do it. Looks good.

But the KOOL Morning Crew page went back in time! (To only yesterday, not January '08 or something ;D ) And not all pages work yet.

Pimped out, indeed. The font on the top banner ad is bigger than the station call letters in the header.
A quarter of the header is advertising. You would think CBS would deem the legendary KOOL-FM worthy of a bigger place in the heading of it's own website. Seems kind of tacky, or yes, pimped-out.

Great picture of the morning show. Hadn't seen what Michaels looked like since his KNIX TV show. Ya still got it, Johnny!

JDC

"Pimped" is right! Looks like they've become a shill for CBS-TV (and associated advertisers).

Mojo might like to know that the "Hollywood Insider" segment is on around 7:15am, not 7:45 as noted on the web site.

In the world of meat, it would be similar to black pudding meets chorizo. In the bar across the street, they'd call it a clusterf**k.

Why does CBS insist on following in Clear Channel's wake? Any savvy surfer is going to see that website for the mess of junk advertising that it is. Nobody's fault. They're all under pressure from Wall Street.
That's what's going to kill radio.

The previous comments are on the mark as it does have that
"pimped" look and also resembles a typical Cheap Channel website.

Makes me want to wash my hands after keystroking through
the pages. ;D

But did y'all notice that some of the pages look like they should
be on their IT development side only and not visible to the public
on the live side--placeholders, slugs, test copy, etc.

What it really needs though are more pics of Maria! 8)

I believe the reason that the website smells like Clear Channel is because CBS Phoenix hired Clear Channel Phoenix's web guys awhile back.

The layout is identical to the KZON and KMLE websites. A cookie cutter approach to websites. Why am I not surprised?

The old KOOL web site used to have a photo of Maria, hubby and both kids in the hot tub.

And what's up with John Michaels? He had three names going there for awhile with Gardner then it's back to just John Michaels. If there was an announcement I missed it.

I just remember John Michaels Esparza as another name. What was the other, out of curiosity?

And they did it because the boss at the time wanted to reach out to more hispanic listeners... so I've been told. Funny, huh? :D

Now, after the shock of seeing a totally new website, you guys are right. It's too Clear Channel! I think it's much too "busy" on the home page. The old layout wasn't bad... It just could have been given an updated look. I've had some experience creating webpages and using HTML.

I'm almost positive Mojo only works on the page during the show (pictures, captions, winners, etc.). Whoever made that mistake was probably the webmaster of the whole entire site, because everything Mojo did to the page this morning was undone this afternoon. Now it's on yesterday's page.
