KPGG 103.9 Texarkana Changes

I saw on their facebook page an invitation for advertisers to come to a presentation to hear about changes coming to KPGG.

I guess they're looking for a new audience...?

Maybe between Classic Country and Kool Oldies, the 65+ crowd just isn't spending their retirement check like they used too.

Anybody know what type of changes that could possibly be taking place with this station? The reason I ask is I saw some people protesting on that Feb. 7 invitation photo on their Facebook page over what may or may not happen with K-Pig.

I heard yesterday it was going hot new country. In the last book in the 12+ numbers they were tied for 3rd.This change should put them back in the cellar. KKYR has the new country market locked up

I don't have a stake in this either way, but just to play Devil's Advocate...

In a market a small as Texarkana, market share doesn't always mean money. You could have a 50+ share and if local businesses don't want to advertise to your demo, you don't make money. Like I pointed out before, they don't have a single format that caters to the "under 65" crowd. That cuts you out of advertising from most mall stores, most fast food places, most live music bars, etc.

If they do a good job with new country and try a little harder than KKYR does, it could be refreshing.

I don't have a stake either That's true market share doesn't equal money and I don't know if they were or weren't making money. My point is if your gonna change formats why pick the Goliath in the market to go against. It should be interesting to watch

I had that same discussion with a PD in a different market that was switching his FM to a conservative talk format. There was already a monster AM/FM talk combo that had all the top tier talent locked-up. I pointed out to the PD that his talk line-up would never topple the competitor, but he informed me that he wasn't aiming for #1, he just wanted a nice piece of the pie.

KKYR had a 17.4 share in the fall book. That's a big pie for one station.

Any new info on the KPGG format change? Just kurius!

I had heard they were gonna switch yesterday but they didn't

A little bird told me they will begin stunting on Friday. Look for the new format on Monday. Unless the bird lied to me... never can trust a talking bird. :-X

 i heard they were going to have john tesh play piano and voice track at the same time on all dayparts! Should be a humdinger!

Well, so far it looks like I was wrong too. It's Saturday and still Country Legends.

Maybe the format change on Monday is still on... Or they got cold feet!

Sounds Awesome! I can just see it now...
Tesh in the Mornings, Donny Osmond in the Afternoons, Delilah in the evening. "The PUT YOU TO SLEEP AT WORK station" :D

I officially have no idea what is going on. My info was from a reliable source, but maybe things just aren't panning out.

It took 107.1 three months to finally pull off their format change, so I guess that's the record to beat!

Note: I just read on their Facebook page people are thanking them for not changing. Maybe they decided against it. ???

:( I too, officially have no idea what's happening! However, I do have a friend of a friend who works for an audio equipment company who is unofficially quoted as saying that: "they or someone completely different has purchased an unnatural amount of turntables and cart machines 8)

I heard and actually saw that the format change was supposed to be top 40 country with Texas/red dirt music. But I think there was a problem that set it back.

Isn't that the same thing 107 tried with Border Country? That didn't work

True. But over the last couple of years there has been a rapidly growing interest in Tx and red dirt music. I hear all the time there are no stations like it in our area and wish there was. If it happens I think it just might work!
