KPWT 106.7

What will be the format of choice this time?....

I have to admit that the whole scheme of giving away money to the listener who can guess the new format is brilliant. It surely gives the average listener an interaction with the new format. It immediately draws the attention to radio nerds like us, but with this money contest it also draws more than usual interest from the average listener too.

Nice.

Wow ::) I had a feeling that format wasn't gonna last. Maybe they shouldn't have dropped the urban format after all if they weren't gonna keep the current one for long.

How long did this last?... Less then a year?? In any case, as I posted on this site at the start on their new talk format, i didn't expect it to last too long because they didn't have any locally originated shows of interest... No surprise here.

I think its hilarious people actually think this is a April Fools Joke.

Come on now... 5 days of no advertisments surely means hundreds of thousands of advertisment dollars wasted away just for a prank that last 5 days? I think not. There is no way Cox would lose that kind of money just so they can say "HA HA WE GOT YOU SAN ANTONIO, APRIL FOOLS!"

I recall a few years back The Beat 104.3 here in Austin went to Talk with Howard Stern in AM then flipped it back to Hip Hop...could the same happen in SA?? I HOPE SO!! LOL

Don't know why they would want to take down their current Talk format website if this wasn't for real.
http://fmtalk1067.com/ is not working now.

That would be cool but I do not see that happening. Especially since 10 months ago they were Hip Hop.

They Could Go Back To CHR

Mix is doing excellent and KTFM is dayparting with a CHR lean. I honestly do not think they would go this route.

I'm going to miss hearing Clark Howard in the afternoon. :'(

I don't see how they go any other way than Classic Rock in an attempt to flank KZEP. KISS has been getting killed by KZEP. No way Cox doesn't try to help KISS regain some ground.

I think that's a clue. Cox uses "The River" in Atlanta for its pop-leaning Classic Rock station. We used to say Classic Hits to denote a familiar Classic Rock format, but these days Classic Hits is Oldies minus the pre-Beatles stuff with some 80s thrown in.

So while KZEP is fairly hard-edged, I'll bet "The River" will be Classic Rock that's familiar and not too hard... Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Stones, Springsteen, Clapton, Heart... etc.

By the way, when The River debuted in Atlanta, it beat all the existing rock stations and continues to be the top rock station to this day.

I only listened to KPWT when Clark Howard was on. Dance would be great but I doubt it.

---- Makes you wonder how much longer The big talker will be on in Austin....???

I was thinking "The River" sounds like a soft rock/adult contemporary, but Cox already has that format with Magic 105.3, so cross that out.

Gregg's guess of a possible classic hits format is good, but I am hoping against it. If I tune into 106-7 and hear, "Don't do me like that...Don't do me like that...Girl I need you baby...Don't do me like that," I am going to be PISSED.

My guess: It will be an 80s Rock station, similar to 106-9 The Point in Houston.

Cox has virtually pioneered the 80's format with stations in markets such as Tampa and Jacksonville in addition to Houston. Mind you, these stations launched years ago. If anything, maybe they'll launch a "Point" focusing on 90's music?
