KPWT 106.7

Classic Rock makes some sense, but could present a delicate balance for Cox:

1) If you go the route of WSRV ("The River") in Atlanta, you have overlap with KONO (Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Santana, Peter Frampton, Billy Joel, Elton John).

2) Cox also owns a Classic Rock station in Tampa that plays Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and some 90's material (core KISS artists)

Could "The River" be a smokescreen? Cox has a Country Combo in Houston with 93Q and Country Legends. Would Cox consider moving the KKYX format back to FM and possibly putting Talk on 680?

Anyone listen to Bubba the Love Sponge and hear him pimping a brand new affiliate in Houston coming soon?

Successful talk requires more than a good signal. It requires a commitment to local news and promotion. 1370 in Austin has a slate of big name hosts but it just doesn't connect with Austin the way 590 does. Radio needs to be a part of your life to succeed.

Speaking of local news... it will be interesting to see what 106.7 does in that area.

Well, they certainty will also need a strong locally produced talk show(s) in order to be competitive with both KTSA and WOAI.

It doesn't look like they were able to compete with both WOAI and KTSA becase they were on the air with a Talk format for less then a year.

And after all this time, radio-locator still has KPWT listed as hip hop as the format. :-\

A couple of quotes heard today on 106.7-

This is the last weekend of normal. Something different is coming to 106.7 on Monday at 5pm.

Monday at 5pm.....It arrives....

Everyone still believe Classic Rock is the new format?

My mistake...I meant Classic Hits.

What "if" Cox is fooling everyone in believing 106.7 will be Classic Hits? I know Clear Channel is notorious for making bogus websites....but I can't remember Cox doing the same.

KONO- Demos Men,Women 25-34,35-49,50-54,55+
KISS- Demos Men 18-24,25-34
Magic- Demos Women 25-34,35-49,50-54
Y100- Demos Women 25-34,35-49
The River(Atlanta)- Demos Men,Women 25-34,35-49,50-54

IMO, 35+ looks little crowded.

Don't forget Jack FM. I'm trying to figure out songs for a Classic Hits format that isn't played regularly in our market already.

That's a good point, Anthony. I have always thought of Jack FM being more "Classic Hits" than "Adult Hits."

Let me refresh your memory my friend.

I think you're misunderstanding me....I remember Santa 106.7 but we all that we be short live. What I am saying is creating/registering web address like www.1067river.com. I've seen CC do this plenty of times but not Cox.

Regardless, I don't believe 106.7 will be Classic Hits. Too many stations in the market that are targeting the 35+ crowd.

As I said before, I really think that 106.7 will really go for a Rhythmic Oldies or a Rhythmic AC format, similar to WISX 106.1 in Philadelphia, which targets audiences young and old. :)

Same here...I would love to hear Rhythmic AC in SA.

I see a tower in the logo. Maybe the name of the station will be "106.7 The Tower." Hey, don't laugh, there's actually a station in Nashville - a classic hits station, I believe - that calls itself "97.1 The Tower." Screw it, that's what I'm putting my money on...
