KQBU-FM changing call to KESS

The Devers area signals are all the same for me in NW Harris County. Occasionally strong tropo from Austin will affect 93.3 and 100.7. Same when strong tropo from the southwest causes the Victoria station to bother KQQK on 107.9. I don’t ever notice 98.5 being stepped on.

The one eastern rimshot that has frequent severe reception issues is KFNC, as we’ve discussed at length on these boards. However that Winnie area signal is ten miles farther away for me than the Devers sticks, and 97.5 often suffers a lot of tropo interference from co-channel KWTX and KFTX.
For me I'll often hear San Antonio's 98.5 and sometimes with HD (can be hard with the translators or a country 98.3 & Jack 98.7 from Victoria). 93.3 is probably the eastern rimshot signal I get the least interference with. Before HD was added I would often get the HD from Austin without hearing their analog. 107.9 is also rare to get anything over but happens more than 93.3. 100.7 is probably the worst (outside of 97.5 & 99.9) of those signals. 103.7 I'll often hear the Air1 from Corpus as it's out of sync with KHJK.

The reason i said before HD was the older FM analog transmitter was not 100%, transmitter had some issues.
After we moved a Nautel in there from another site, it had more than enough power for fm and hd, exciter was also a big improvement.
So not sure that HD didnt change a thing, and also its not the old 93.3 TUDN that was in mono , stereo pilot off.
Hopefully i can get some tools and take some readings around town. If you have areas i can visit where 93.3 is worse than the other Devers stations, let me know.
Maybe i can read some of those translators too 😂.

Would you say KESS signal is weaker, stronger, or about the same as before HD?
Also, would you say 93.3 have the equal, less or more signal or reception issues compared to other stations broadcasting from the same area. 100.7, 98.5, 107.9. Nothing against those stations but wondering if the antenna has issues on the tower. I always found 93.3 to be less than expected even in areas well within the local coverage vs distant.
KQQK sounds better signal wise compared to KESS from The Heights all the way up to my house on Ranking and 45 north during my drive from and to work

To me they both seem the same. I can check exact strengths in a bit. I have a TEF6686 so it should be a decent indicator. If you want you can send me a private message on here and I can give you some more info.

OK the strongest currently is 98.5 with 107.9 just below it. A tad bit weaker in 3rd is 93.3. 103.7 is a little weaker and 100.7 is the weakest.
