KQDR

North of here, it looks like Sherman/Denison is getting a new station: the CP for 107.3 Savoy took the calls KQDR today.

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1185036.html

As many stations that have dumped that area around Lake Texoma to move into D/FW, I guess it was about time they got some sort of additional service. A lot has been lost up there: 910 (Sherman->Frisco), 1700 (Denison->Richardson), 93.7 (Healdton OK->Krum), 95.3 (originally a class A serving Grayson Co), 96.7 (Sherman->Flower Mound), 97.5 (Durant OK->Tom Bean), 101.7 (Denison->Azle), 104.1 (Sherman->Sanger), 104.9 (Denison->Pilot Point). That's 9 lost...you can also probably add KFYZ 98.3 Bonham which was downgraded and moved to the middle of nowhere in southeast Oklahoma to allow KBOC 98.3 Bridgeport's upgrade.

As weak as that station will be, I predict it will be swamped by IBOC sidebands from 107.5, particularly if the FCC authorizes more sideband power to improve IBOC coverage.

At least Bobbin' Bob Allen is keeping the faith at KJIM-1500AM. Sure, it's a daytimer with satellite help to fill in some of the dayparts, but he's kept it in the original market it was assigned to long ago. And sometimes you can even pick it up in DFW...and it's a good listen. Bob's a KXOL vet who indeed remembers how radio once was.

Likely the other way around...KMVK is only a C1, so the signal to Sherman and Denison is less than 40 dBU; KQDR will provide a 60 dBU signal or greater to both cities.

KJIM is a great station. We need more like KJIM.

I like to listen here in DFW on the morning drive - it's a nice change from all the loud in your face big city stations.

Agreed. It is really strong in Collin county, especially if you extend that 31 inch whip antenna on the car to something better matched to the AM band.

Another example is KPYK in Terrell, Texas. A mom and pop station if there ever was one. I miss my days working with Chuck and Len Munkern and thank them for the radio experience.
