kraddick dead of heart attack

I have said this in other threads.

They should have renamed this show. It is doomed for failure, as people will grow tired of Kidd Kraddick in the morning without him, after the halo of emotions dies down. Obviously, CC trying to make that last nickel on his name...

They can do the show, but it needs a name change... A simple tribute to him yearly on the day of his death would be classy. The way they are doing this is for ratings off of the name of a deceased man, then when that dies down, they will blow them out for something else.

If they wanted to truly give them a chance at their own show, they would have renamed it, added another character and moved on.

They change the name, and all contracts related to it are void.

Here's an idea: they stay with the name through the contract and solicit the audience to rename the show, naturally selecting the name they would have chosen without audience participation. Since there are only so many names, the audience, with its size will have numerous people submitting the winning name. The key words are they 'select' a name from entries, not randomly draw a name. Just a thought.

Most contracts are written to keep a contract in force even if not every element is in force or in place. In other words, the show name could likely change without voiding or changing the contract. Usually the term is 'surviving elements' remain in force without voiding the contract. I would think Kraddick's signature on any contract would stand a better chance of voiding it versus calling the show by another name. Then the question becomes how much cash is fed to the lawyers to determine everything is okay. Obviously all parties want everything to keep going so I doubt anyone will be making a mad dash toward voiding everyone's good deal at this point.

You can get out of the contract right now, so that isn't a factor. This is far more about CC milking this in DFW as long as they can, until they get a permanent plan in place.

I believe that to be the reality of what is going on and even though I know it is business, it disappoints me, as I was a huge fan of Kidd.

If Kraddick owned the show and sold it to Clear Channel and others through syndication, then it's not up to Clear Channel to rename the show. It's up to his estate through Yea Networks.

That's my understanding: that Kidd's show is independent of any radio station. It is my understanding they seek affiliates and Kiss might be the first station, home base, etc., I don't think any one station might be able to impose decisions although I'm sure certain affiliates carry some substantial weight in many decisions.

Any performance contract has many "outs" for a station.
The passing of "THE" marque player is probably one of them in some shape or form.
Performance is also definitely another...

As harsh as this will read, with "business", I tend to agree with those who postulate the "milk the grief" scenario. After a couple of PPM runs or Books in markets that still use them, IF there is a decline in ratings, affiliates will move on to another show...

I do wish the remaining players the very best...

Well, yeah. You give your 30 days notice and you may be on the hook for cash and/or barter during the term depending upon how the deal is written...

But what's absent from the discussion is how is the show to listen to now that it's being run by the supporting cast. This board was throwing them under the bus since the night this happened.

I'm out of the market without an affiliate so I can't judge it. For those who can hear the show, pretend for a moment that KK's name isn't on the door. Is it entertaining? The bits and pieces I've caught on podcast are pretty decent, but I don't have anything to compare it to.

But yes, from the affiliate perspective, you'll know from a couple of weeklies whether you'll want to be in or out.

All the speculation is entertaining but the folks at CC are not idiots. They will and should wait for at least 30 days to make a sound decision on what to do next. Of course, milking every penny they can in the meantime. According to Steve's WebMD source, let's say the toxicology results are not back yet. The lawyers who run this company and the people that handle PR are not going to make any decision until all the results are back and the autopsy is officially complete.

It is very generous of them to allow the crew to prove what they can do without Kidd. As talented as he was, it was that very crew that rounded out the show and helped it grow to what it was. I do hope they're not thrown by the wayside...but this is CC we're talking about. When have they ever been concerned with what morally they should do?

Again, no bones to pick with CC...it's just business.

And it has nothing to do with CC. The show is owned by YEA Networks.

To repeat, the show is totally owned & operated by the company Kidd started called YEA networks. It's embarrassing to see so many comments from people that don't understand that YEA produces a product that radio stations buy. The stations have a choice to carry or not carry the show but they have NO control over the direction the show will go in since Dave died.

Not hardly "embarrassing", a lot of people just don't understand how this works. You are exactly right that YEA owns the show. However, in a tragic situation like this, the two entities are working in tandem. A lot of "consulting" between the 2 companies (& their attorneys) going on right now.

Maybe for Dallas, but this show airs on stations not owned by CC.

The management team at YEA is talking with a lot of people--and, of course, that includes their biggest customers. Be that as it may, to use a sports analogy, Jerry Jones wants to please the Cowboys' fans and the tv networks but he doesn't let them have a say in who coaches or who plays for his team.

Well the Jones analogy is kind of weak, in that it always seems Jones himself is the one who does all the coaching...

That's so funny! I was just reading some comments yesterday from Jason Garret thinking to myself, "You're NOT the head coach, Jerry is". It was all so clear from his comments and observations.

I can see why they are keeping the name for contract and marketing reasons. But I can guarantee, a year from now this show will be renamed into something else. Perhaps "America's Morning Box", "Kellie and Big Al In The Morning", "Kidds Krew In The Morning", and perhaps "The All-American Morning Crew". I'm guessing these are the likely the new names.
