Kraddick leaving Premiere

rufus said:
Reliable word is that they are leaving the Premiere Syndication family...what's the scoop on it?

If that is true it could mean Kraddick might be leaving Clear Channel since CC owns Premier. Would CBS or Cumulus be smart enough to grab him. There have alway's been rumors of him going over to KVIL. But could he get a long with those people?

If he didn't, it would be no fault of his own. Dave's a very likeable guy.

What if: Kidd Kraddick moves over to either MOVIN or MIX? KIDD would guarantee that MOVIN or MIX would be around for as long as he was there? Reality says this rumor is false unless reported on AllAccess.

MIX is still Clear Channel/Premiere. MOVIN' would be very interesting though. I wonder what this means for his many CC affiliates, too?

This is all just bullcrap, first of all, why would he leave KHKS? His morning show is the top rated show in the metroplex right now.

It's my understanding that Kraddick's relationship with KHKS and other stations is strictly on a syndication basis, regardless of the fact that KHKS used to employ him. So if he "left KHKS," it wouldn't be that he's severing a personal employment relationship with the station, it just means that another syndicator he chooses will likely shop the show to other stations. That doesn't mean that CC will drop him from every CC-owned station should he quit Premiere. There are plenty of CC-owned stations around the nation that carry ABC Radio Networks and Westwood One programming, so that's nothing unusual. I'm sure there's a financial and contractural advantage to having a CC property like Kraddick signed to a CC-owned station. I recall that Howard Stern in the late 1990s was hesitant about signing on with a local Infinity-owned station here after KEGL dropped him, because he would lose a chunk of the spots to them since he was employed by and syndicated by Infinity. That was the reason Stern didn't drift over to The Edge or elsewhere back then. Kraddick may be faced with a similar dilemma.

I've only met Kidd a couple of times, and he seems like a very likeable guy to me. However, I've heard that, like Ron Chapman, he can be a demanding perfectionist, and those that work with him probably bear the brunt of that endeavor sometimes. (Did I state that diplomatically enough?)

If I remember correctly, I think ClearChannel announced their own syndication network a while back. Yes they own Premiere, but they are trying to operate it as independant from CC as possible. I would be willing to bet that Kraddick may just be switching over from Premiere to CC, therefore making it relatively transparent. Also, doesnt he have some kind of contract that he is still in?

I see nothing wrong with that. Matty Segal was said to be the same way when he was doing mornings at Kiss up in Boston. Morning show hosts that are tops in their market have every right to be...excellence drives their success, and failure isn't an option. Jocks typically don't have this kind of work ethic.

He was signed before the previous GM of Clear Channel got canned. From what I understand they brought her to try to get him signed then when they did they canned her. She wasn't to bright when it came to marketing the station and costs. At the time there were rumors that CBS was trying to lure him away but couldn't. That isn't too much of a stretch to say that since he has had great ratings for the last however many years.

CBS was definitely trying to lure him away. People heard Kidd's messages on Kurt Johnson's voice mail as they walked by Johnson's office. Yes, Kidd, if you read this board, Kurt didn't even have the sense to shut his door when reviewing his voice mail. And I hope, Kidd, that you figured out that Kurt's quite a creepy cat and said "no" to him based on that alone. I'll think a lot more of you if that's the case.

Bill Curtis also tried to get Kidd for KVIL mornings back in the late 90's. It wouldn't have been a good fit. Curtis was starving for control of KVIL since Chapman had always technically outranked him as Ops Manager. I don't know Kidd, but I would imagine he sensed that Curtis would have meddled too much with the morning show. Curtis was also under the delusion that Kidd would need to play more music to succeed at KVIL. I don't think anyone outside of KVIL at the time would have bought into that theory. Kidd was right to stay away.

Good points Pig...The "Creepy One" and the rest at CBS-Dallas deserve each other. I'm sure Jerry BoBo is glad to be out of the CBS Mess.

Someone asked me one time'what has Kurt Johnson ever done for radio?" I said simply, you answered your own question.

'what has Kurt Johnson ever done for radio?"

Took it to a new low from Bill Curtis. Running off good talent and keeping many a lame talent.
