Krazy Kid on KTAR !?!?!

Hey Everybody!

When I decided to pursue a career in radio I knew how the industry worked.
Most Air Personalities jump from city to city plying their trade. As soon as
their contract in one town was up it was time to pack up the family and move
to the next destination. I wanted my career to be different. I'm in love
with my hometown, I want my kids to grow up here, I want to make a positive
impact and be more than just a DJ...I wanted to be a friend to those who
trusted me to inform, entertain and perhaps put a smile on their face each
morning.

I was well on my way to doing that before September 1, 2005. However, for
reasons, some in my control and others I had no control over, September 1,
2005 became the last day I was allowed to follow my dream on the Phoenix
Airwaves. Over the past year I have been faced with many personal and
professional
decisions. One decision that was never debated was my desire to stay here in
the Valley, a promise I made to Valley listeners more than a decade ago, and
my desire to continue to make a positive impact on this wonderful community
we all call home.

As many of you have noticed there have been extraordinary changes to the
Phoenix Radio Landscape since I left. Heritage Radio Stations no longer exist,
other stations have switched formats and personalities, and many other radio
stations just tend to stay afloat with barely a heartbeat and definitely no
soul. On the other hand there are some radio companies that have taken bold
steps to re-vitalize the Medium of radio. One such company is Bonneville
Broadcasting, the owners of News 92.3 KTAR. Over this past year KTAR has taken
the steps to transform this 80+ year old radio station from a typical AM
Newstalker that has relied on a much older demographic to a FM Radio Station
that
reflects today's adult, gives important information and then gives you, the
public, a forum to discuss the days events and how they affect your lives.

As you all know responsible, informative broadcasting was a cornerstone of
our show throughout the years. I crossed a lot of managers throughout the
years because they felt our show should be more silly, trivial, full of games,
etc. I believed that we had a responsibility to inform people what was going
on in our world and give them an outlet to talk about it. Now there's
finally a radio station that shares in my belief that younger adults are not
only
very interested in today's events but also have strong views and want to be
heard.

So it is with Great Excitement and Anticipation that I'm inviting you to
join me this Tuesday (12/19) through Friday (12/22) from 9PM - 12MID MST as I
fill in for Larry Gaydos on News 92.3 KTAR. KTAR is by far the biggest radio
station in the state of Arizona. I will be heard on KTAR - FM 92.3, KTAR - AM
620 and World Wide at _WWW.KTAR.COM_ (http://www.ktar.com/) .

I can't explain the incredible positive emotions I am currently
experiencing. I can't get it out of my mind. I've missed broadcasting so much
and I
can't wait for the opportunity to begin this new direction in my career. News
Talk is something that most, if not all, Air Personalities strive for. It's
just me, the microphone, and the listeners. No music, no goofy stunts, no
agenda from management dictating your views. It's truly broadcasting in it's
purest form. I feel so blessed to have this chance of a lifetime.

Will something else come from this? Well, it's a try-out for a different
shift that will open up on January 1st. I guess it all depends on how this
next week goes. So if you've got an extra prayer that you could send my way it
would be greatly appreciated.

As always, thank you so much for your friendship, support, loyalty and most
of all the amazing relationship we've shared over the years. It's these
things that have kept me focused on my goal of staying on the air in The Valley
for the past decade and hopefully for decades to come.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays...Your friend,
Kid

Kid:

I've followed your career since 1989 (we had a mutual friend back then, Tracy S). I'll be listening to your audition.

Best wishes for your continued success,

KOHS

Where'd I leave my bottle of Ensure?!?

Let's see...a former intern of mine is a PD (Kevin Butler); a former producer of mine is a big-time morning guy (Johnny Holmberg)...now a guy who used to drive the van for me is becoming a talk show host?!? Maybe I can just buy a walker with a built-in microphone...

I feel older than Joe Adams....

You're in luck! Shure has the walker microphone available on its web site! It's endorsed by Al McCoy! ;D

KOHS and Jim,

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I haven't been this excited about radio in a long time. What an awesome opportunity. Jim, I still remember driving the vans with Gary and doing call-ins. You have always been someone I've looked up to. KOHS, I appreciate the well wishes. Mutual friend (Tracy Shill)? I'm in a little over my head with the amount of talent we have here in the valley in talk radio. Hopefully good things will happen and I'll be able to eeeek out some sort of spot amongst you giants!

Yeah, Tracy Shill. I was trying to protect the innocent from being associated with this board of ill-repute. ;D

This is awesome. How long have I been saying Kid should get on a talk station. I was more thinking of free fm but this is awesome. I will be listening and I do hope this turns into something full time for you.

Good Deal "Kid" Ive enjoyed our dicussions & Debates over the years, Do it Big like you always do, I know you are perfect for talk radio & Jim thats funny stuff about "Joe" Im feeling old now!
KRAZY KID!!!!!!
I'll be Listening online in between KRCK breaks!

Kid

Great thoughts about Bonneville and KTAR. I've been here long enough to know the difference.

Good luck this week for Gaydos.

Kid - Great way to lay down the law with that loser who said you were a sell out last night. Oh cause you don't know wanna play another 12 in a row and play a wacky game you are a sell out? mmmm NO. You are a pro at talk radio and I have been loving the chat the past two nights. Keep it up and sure hope you get the 7p shift come the first :)

Kid,

I was finally able to listen to you last night- great job! You have a great on-air presence; tackled a controversial topic without being rude and offensive; good time management; overall an enjoyable show without relying on the usual fare of toaster talk!

I may joke about TMISU, KT'R, pat McBland, Ded Simons, etc.  ;D, but Bonneville, IMHO, is the best radio company that anyone could ever hope to work for. Bonneville cares about its people first and profits second (as proven by the toaster talk)...something Cheap Channel could never say or do!

Honestly, Kid sounds like every other DJ who wants to be a talk show host. Not a lot of depth, and he doesn't seem to know much about what he's talking about. Maybe that will come with time. But, still, the talk audience isn't always willing to give that kind of time. KT'R had a team show on, a couple of weeks ago. I don't remember their names. Two guys. They were pretty entertaining. Plus, I think they were actual talk show hosts. I have nothing against Kid. But, if it comes down to a choice between the two, I would rather hear the two guys, than Kid. I like talk radio, and would rather listen to real talk show hosts. But, that's just me.

Kid - Yawn !
"Your best christmas gift ??" Puh-leeze.
Whats next ? Your favorite color of Peeps for easter ?
Lets see if he can find a NEW angle on immigration/michael richards/miss usa/etc.
What will this guy sound like in two months is the question-if they hire him.
And-if they did-is there going to be using "Kid" in 10 years?
Use your real name Darrin Damme. @ least its cooler.

Your silly for posting the comment above....Kid is his radio name which listeners know him by,which he has marketed very well, so you want him to market a name no listeners know him by, except a few who know his real name. As long as Kids on the Valley air waves the listeners will know him as KID its that simple whether its 2 months from now or 10 years thats who he is. "KID" it crosses over even to talk radio.

Benny "occupation DJ" Arce, sir. I am privvy to recent Phoenix market Q surveys and market perceptual studies. Kid Stevens does NOT show in the top 5 for top of the mind recall. If you ain't there in unassisted recall you ain't anywhere.

By the way it's "you're" not your".

I'm not sure about the timing on this, but what about Preston Westmoreland? He worked at KT'R for 25 years. He didn't want to go to nights. They could have found something, even part time, for Preston to do. I believe it was his choice to leave.

Someone please correct me. Was the Westmoreland incident under Bonneville's watch or was that the previous regime?

I believe Westmorland's departure was under the Emmis Brain Trust's watch.

I truly hope that Kid is able to find a job, somewhere. But, he's a morning jock. He needs to find a music station to do his show on. Last night, he kept patting himself on the back for picking a topic that people were actually calling on. Like I said before, he sounds like every other DJ who wants to be a talk show host. I don't mean that to be insulting. He's a great jock, who deserves to be on the air. But, once the talk audience realizes that there's no substance to anything that he's doing, they'll go someplace else.

You're a GREAT morning jock, kid. But, you are a pathetic talk show host. Stick with what your strengths are. I, for one, would rather hear you on a music station.

I think Kid would be a good fit on FreeFM, but KT'R might not be the best fit for Kid's high-octane style and delivery.

Maybe he should try using Vicodin to get down on Pat's level. ;D
