KRJY 1240 Off The Air Since Thursday.

Rejoice 1240 To Return to Air by June 7

According to Tommy Goss' Facebook Page.

If it's at a new site...it may have a reduced coverage.

This is better that completely silent.

Hi! I'm new to the area and really enjoyed the radio station since it's really the only Gospel station I can receive without satellite radio. Does anyone know if they can bring it back? I would be willing to contribute money to bring it back. Maybe they could do a telethon or something. I couldn't believe they just stopped broadcasting without telling their listeners. But I really miss them. I can get another station AM 1190 that I think broadcasts from the Bay Area but Rejoice was better. Any news would be appreciated. thanks.

A friend of mine just told me. He called the station and they said they've been off since Thursday due to a serious technical issue.
I am the new engineering consultant for KRJY. The station will be back on the air with the same great 24/7 Gospel Format, Saturday June 19, 2010. Any inquiries, E-mail me. [email protected]

I am the new consulting engineer for KRJY. The new temporary long-wire antenna system will be completed by mid week. The station should be back on the air from the new site by Saturday 6/19/10. Further inquiries [email protected]. Morris & Associates Consultants.

Johhny Morris-

That is great news. I'm sad to see a locally owned station off the air. I realize that you're the consulting engineer: are you installing or did you design (or both)? Just curious.....

Thanks!

I am installing according to FCC STA specs. Curious..how is the co-channel interference in SAC from KWG 1230 in Stockton when KRJY was on the air?

One could tune them both in quite nicely from Rancho Cordova.

KRJY had really nice coverage for a graveyard channel station. After the NRSC-3 standard was implemented around 1990 on KSAC 1240, KWG started to come in better in the Sacramento suburbs.

That is great news Johnny Morris. I drive down Jefferson often, not far from the new site. I can't wait to watch the progress as the site is built :).

I could use some help in tuning and getting a working T-network!

thank you so much Johnny for the great news! I'm thrilled to know that KRJY is coming back on the air. Blessings to you.

Is there an update on the station? On my way down Jefferson, I drove by the new site--doesn't appear that any work has started.

Thanks!
Delay in getting the poles for the long wire up. Hoping for this upcoming Thursday.

Do you remember when this frequency was " Classical Ksac" ? Bach on AM. What were they thinking? It did last a while though.

That was Ken Jonsson trying to do something worthwhile with the frequency. The station was voice tracked in-house 24 hours a day, playing classical music on CD from September of 1987 unitl September of 1991. It pulled as high as a 1.7 share with classical. It was the highest numbers the station had since it was KROY. The next time the station had anything like that ratings wise was when it was Progressive Talk in 2005.

The Classical format was dropped in favor of "all sports" shortly after KXPR went virtually full-time classical in 1991, with the launch of KXJZ.

Say what you want about the Jonssons and what they did with KROY. They had little or no experience running a radio station at the time.

Ken kept the station on the air and had a staff of 20 people on a money losing stand-alone AM as late as the fall of 1994. He was always fair and truly cared about the staff. His family is well respected and and has a history of generosity. The Kenneth Jonsson Family Foundation has contributed countless millions to several education institutions. Ken passed away a couple of months ago. His wife Diana, sadly died in 2006 shortly after she collapsed while leading a tour at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Google "Diana G Jonsson" , "Kenneth A. Jonsson", "Kenneth Jonsson Family Foundation" or "the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer at UCLA" and see how much they have given to the community.

Thank you for the insight as to more of the stations history. "Worthwile" is a key word. I am sure that "gospel" is appreciated by a niche audience and AM stations with this format are common in other parts of the country. With the demise of smooth jazz on 94.7 perhaps this genre could be brought to 1240. Add a little more urban influence to it and bring back the blues programing they had on the weekend when it was "Talk City". This could give it a broader appeal. Low Power Kdee calls their format "Music for Grown Folks" but their signal is limited. Somthing of this nature could be a welcome addition to the dial. Heck, call it KBNJ (blues and jazz)
