KRKE 50,000 watts on 1600

Top Billing Station is AM, I would take a little slice of that pie and be Happy..

There is a big difference between an AM News/Talk station and any AM music station. The very minor population gain with going to 50 kw. will not translate into revenues, as stations with low ratings or no ratings don't sell on numbers.

The real problem is the ongoing decline in total AM numbers... in a market that will be off about 20% this year.

Dave, it's amazing how there are people that continue to live in the past with antiquated technology. I'm struggling to listen or come back to the FM band....and this guy is enthusiastic about an AM staion at the top of the dial blaring out 50000 watts going nowhere.
I was just wandering...if giving an all-night shift at the old KOMA...how many listener's would I average in a cume share? Whether it's CHR,AC, or oldies....I wonder if my phone would light up much at all.

Hey Starbucks, 1600 has a bunch of online listeners and in a short time when folks can easily get the webstream in their Car as they can now on their phones the AM/FM thing will be moot. I get e-mails and Calls from Folks in Chicago,Philly,Hawaii, DC,Phoinex as well as Albuquerque, Los Alamos & Las Cruces that say they Love 1600 better than their local stations......My thinking is to have an excellet Product No Matter if it is AM or FM because in short order folks in Burque will be able to stream 1600 in their car and AM/FM will not matter
OH and it will be the 1600 demo that will have the $$ to buy those cars, So don't think in terms of AM & FM.
Right Now we are in the process of expanding our web capacity, since 98.5 went 70's our server has been unable some days to handle all the requests to stream.

AS Always God Bless & Do Good radio be it AM/FM or Internet.OH and Hello to the Folks In The Armed Srevices that stream in Germany & Japan.

Do you think if WLS did an all night oldies show that they'd get more listeners than they do with George Noory's
show which is heard on a gazillion stations?

Well....who's arguing with you on that? Your online but originally your transmitting on AM , well that's not a factor. Being on AM only at the top of the dial is. As long as they can pick you digitally fine. it not that fact what the content is....no one cares about a 50,000 AM station at the top of the dial except a few Dxers.

As long as your streaming fine....but AM only?....

Absolutely not. Sorry it's not 1971.

My point was that Noory's show is on tons of stations. Unique programming is just that--unique.
Of course it's not cost effective & that's one of the reasons it's not done.

Of course it's a night filler and that's why it's on tons of stations. But just one station in Chicago with George will at least equal what WLS has as far as music all night (once the novelty wears off real fast).
My question was ...if you were giving an all night pop, AC, top 40 or hit oldies, show all night ....at a 50,000 watt clear channel frequency radio station....do you think there would be lots of listeners and the phones ringing off the hook from all over where the signal travels today, compared back to the 60's & 70's?.

Compared to the 60s & 70s obviously not.

Re: The affluent rv'ers

In the past two weeks, I still haven't seen those darn RV's.
Are you sure they're being bought?

Thanks for Providing the streaming option for those of us elsewhere !
And you have ON-LINE listeners to 1550, too, for four reasons: 1) the great mix, much better than KVNA-FM "Sunny 100" here in Northern AZ

2) ABC information network hourly news

3) and Lou Dobbs in the evening - we have NO politically independent, in-depth, issues oriented talk radio on any good *LOCAL* signal (only overnight/Rick Barber/KOA Denver)

4) weekend programming I do not get a chance to listen, but I SHOULD be as I know you have a lot of great hosts - I have streamed the Mayor a few times, sure wish we had his expertise in Arizona !

If you can upgrade your 1550 and 1600 streaming to 64kBps or even 128kBps w/ a subscription service, I'd pay $10/month for it !!! With corporate radio (like YAVAPAI BROADCASTING over here), programming from Independent stations like Vanguard is always going to be better. :)
