KRLD HD1

I've heard KRLD refer to their HD1 on their legal ID. So is there a KRLD HD2 yet? And if so, what are they doing with it?

You can't run more than one HD broadcast on AM stations. You can only do this on the FM band.

So what is the purpose of saying KRLD HD1 on their legal ID?

Are they actually saying HD1? If so, they need to drop the "1" and just say something like HD/AM KRLD, or similar.

I have heard WBAP ID this week as WBAP Fort Worth/Dallas and WBAP-HD1 Fort Worth/Dallas. Neither KLIF nor KTCK ID thier HD system like this yet.

According to a reply on the HD Radio forum (http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,80956.0.html):

Yes it is. In the new rules for the HD radio service, which went into effect last Friday, the legal ID rule (section 73.1201) was amended to state that HD radio streams must be ID'ed so that the listener knows he or she is listening to a digital broadcast. Each HD channel must now carry a legal ID once per hour, just like the analog channels, and you'll probably hear the analog and HD1 channels ID'ing simultaneously in most cases.

'BAP's been doing that for maybe three or four weeks now. Wonder what Mark Levin sounds like in HD? Bet it could melt ear wax. :'(

CBS stations have apparently been ID'ing the HD channels, too, since at least mid-September. That was when I first noticed the CBS stations in my area (St. Louis) doing that.

That might be a blessing for those of us with excessive ear wax problems. :-\

and why in the heck call it KRLD HD1 if that's all you get?! That's like saying, "Welcome to the first annual..."

But hey, I graduated with a minor in philosophy. I can deduce logic. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
