FROM A NEWS RELEASE DATED 8/21/08:
"NewsTalk 740 KRMG is pleased to announce that Dan Potter has been hired as News Director and Assistant Program Director for KRMG, Tulsa’s #1 News, Weather and Traffic Station.
With 25 years in radio journalism, Potter was most-recently News Director and Morning News Anchor for NewsTalk 820 WBAP in Dallas-Fort Worth. In his 13 years as News Director, he helped transition WBAP from a full-service country music station to the Lone Star state’s most-listened-to and most honored news-talk outlet.
Dan has anchored many major breaking news stories and large events including wall-to-wall anchoring during the attacks on September 11, 2001, the Oklahoma City Bombing, the Branch Davidian siege at Mount Carmel, the demise of space shuttle Columbia over North Texas and the inauguration of President Bush.
“Dan Potter brings a level of credibility and achievement compatible with KRMG’s heritage as Tulsa’s radio news leader,” says KRMG Operations Manager Drew Anderssen, “We expect him to enhance that image as well as lead KRMG’s on-going effort to expand the station’s online news coverage.”
Potter has received dozens of honors, including the DuPont-Columbia Silver Baton, Texas AP Broadcasters Awards, Press Club of Dallas Katie Awards, and the national Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Major Market Newscast. He was once dubbed “Texas’ Most Listened-To Radio News Anchor.”
“KRMG’s heritage and national reputation as Oklahoma’s dominant news radio station is what drew me to this job,” says Potter, “but, the beauty and vibrancy of Green Country is what sold me on it. These are exciting times for this region and I’m eager to call Tulsa home.”
Away from the newsroom, Dan is an avid ‘foodie’ and has hosted multiple food and cooking shows in the DFW Metroplex.
He is also well known in high school and college music circles for his lifelong involvement with competitive marching bands and drum corps. He is the stadium announcer and Jumbotron talent for the national competitive marching band circuits Bands of America and Drum Corps International. His Drum Corps International podcast, “Field Pass,” spent seven weeks this summer on the iTunes Music Podcast Top 100."
