I think it's time to blow it up. This is embarrassing the way executives are handling KROQ. how much lower are they going to allow KROQ to go. The morning show hasnt helped as well. Just my thoughts. David e has said anything lower than a 0.4 advertisers wont look at. And the way its trending it's going in that direction. Your thoughts?

Since you brought it up, we might as well provide a link to the rest of the 6+ numbers for discussion:

There's not much new to say about KROQ except the company is experimenting with various combinations of things at their other alternative stations.

I did not say that. Agencies, the major user of ratings, determine how many and how deep they buy based on each market's budget. In an important market like LA, they might buy 10 deep against the client target. In Sioux Falls, they might only buy the top three or four stations.

So then what can be done david? It's like a car with a flat tire eventually it will affect the performance of the other stations

KLOS is also not fairing well they are at 1.9 overall so much for the top 5 at noon
KLOS wobbles around between 8th and 13th in 25-54 men in share. In rating in the same demo, they are consistently in a 7 to 9 station tie for 4th. And agencies, generally, look at ratings

Agencies that are buying men see KLOS as "tied for 4th" which means they will get on the buy if the CPP is correct.

What will be interesting to see moving forward is what bump KNX sees now that they are on FM. Will KNX pass them or will they still be lagging behind AM only KFI?

If there was a money-making format opportunity that still hadn't been cracked in the market yet, Audacy would have flipped KROQ yesterday.

But format flips are expensive -- and it could be that KROQ at depressed ratings can still self-sustain itself and still be running at a profit. The alternative format still brings in younger listeners, which appeals to advertisers. Who knows for how long, but there is definitely a willingness to be patient.

KROQ in its current iteration is being run very lean. The station isn't hosting any events, they covered nights/overnights with two syndicated hosts from NYC and the morning show is likely a fraction of the cost of "Kevin in the Morning."

The other point I want to make is that Audacy and iHeart no longer want to be "radio companies." They want to be a "digital audio" companies, like Spotify. I'm sure 90%+ of Audacy/iHeart's revenue comes from radio ads, but that mix is likely to change in the future.

Advertisers have been shifting some of their dollars to podcasts and other digital audio platforms. Audacy/iHeart likely sees it as a huge opportunity to its business. While growing the core terrestrial radio business is important to Audacy, I think they're more interested in making investments in digital/podcasting, which also theoretically can help the company's stock price.

So if you asked David Field, would you rather spend $25M on acquiring a small podcast startup or $25M on format flips, I think you would know his answer.

Question here from a boy on the other coast who used to sling music for a living.
(Well, I'm not THAT disparate. I was raised by Sunrise Highway on Long Island and you folks are near Sunset Boulevard :- )

Does L.A. have a Classic Rock format ? I can't see one listed. Was any format mis-labelled ?

Unimportant footnote : on a Columbo episode I watched the other night -- 'A Friend In Deed' -- police cars stopped at some hotel. Across the avenue from the hotel was a billboard for KLOS 95.5.

Yes, KLOS is fundamentally classic rock. The issue is that LA is nearly 80% Hispanic, Asian, Black and first generation immigrants, groups that significantly under index in use of rock formats.

KLOS does play currents but like most Active Rock stations, its playlist is anchored by mostly harder rocking gold library tracks. It's not purely a Classic Rock format like KSWD was though.

Funny thing is KLOS is owned by Meruelo, a man and company that understands and primarily caters to those groups.

Thanks for the playlist, Big A !
Even at night, it's very doubtful that, say, WAXQ in NYC would play 'When The Levee Breaks' by Ed Zeppelin. The sight of that on the list made me punch it up to listen.

I believe the playlist hour you sent is from the nighttime. That might explain the lack of female singers / writers. So KLOS can play their two female songs (Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks) in the daytime :- )

The KLOS playlist is a little too all over the board for its own good. They need to exercise moderation on the deep cuts and the 90s alt product (Weezer, as an example) and play more classic rock hits.

Four or five years ago, KSWD and KLOS were pulling in about five shares on a combined basis. KLOS is absolutely leaving potential share on the table.
