Do you think KROQ will rebound ratings wise anytime soon. They are way behind KYSR and KLOS. I was reading on reddit and about los angles radio. And i saw a lot of the people who listened to KROQ for years now listen to Jack Fm Or K-Earth or ALT 98.7

The main attraction was the Kevin & Bean morning show. When Bean retired, the audience went away. The music isn't an attraction. So yes, I can imagine some former K&B listeners are happy with Jack or Kevin's new show at KLOS.

It's called aging. I am not in the 18-34 demo anymore 46 to be exact but I still enjoy the format. Not a fan of k-earth. First thing Kroq needs is a good morning show. The current one doesn't cut it.They made a mistake not replacing Stryker. Allie is not a strong enough personality for a lead for a morning radio show in my opinion.

And get rid of the show killer as pd. Ever since Mike the show killer left alt 98.7 numbers have improved. Just saying...

I wonder what would be considered a "good morning show" now. I bet it's not the same as what worked 30 years ago.

There was a time when people would put up with bad music to hear a good morning show.

Howard Stern was one of those people. Ichabod Caine in Seattle was another.

I think seacrest and the woody show are well done. Heidi and frank also. The morning mess on the now defunct now 97.1 was awful

Jack plays some of the music KROQ would play years ago

This is a good look at the top LA morning shows. Those are in there, but Kevin Klein is right behind Woody and ahead of Heidi & Frank:

I wouldn't be surprised if Kaplan's status at Audacy may change in the near future, especially with how bad the format is languishing.

He isn't the only person involved in alternative programming at the company. In the last few months, he's hired a lot of VP level people around him, and based on that, he's less involved in individual decisions than people think. Replacing him isn't going to make listeners more tolerant of music choices.

In this day and age, is there a good reason for Los Angeles to have two commercial alternative stations, considering the demographics of the market? And on top of that, a Jack FM with a higher affinity for alternative than the other Jacks.

Money. They may not bill as well as they did, but it's still better than most.
Not this year. It seems to have disintegrated when buyers saw that recent changes were not trending upwards.

Good point, didn't think of this. I'd say there's probably more of a strategy rethink needed, but even then, it seems like a moot point if the currents are the issue.

If KROQ were to flip, bringing sports to the FM dial would be a no brainer. The LA area has 2 NFL, 2 NBA, 2 MLB teams. Surely, when broadcast contracts come up for renewal, at least one or more of those teams would be interested in moving over the FM dial, where the listeners are.

My feeling is that it might happen after the holidays. They just blew up their CHR, so next year would make sense.

Well, I've said this before and I'll say it again, yes Bean had departed but Kevin Ryder had at least held on to a chunk of the Kevin & Bean audience. In firing him, what was KROQ's plan, other than alienating the rest of the K&B audience and making sure no one was left to listen to KROQ? How is that a strategy?

I think at some point Audacy will flip many of its Alternative stations.

Miami will likely go back to Sports. New York and Detroit will go News. Dallas is a question mark as is L.A. I think KROQ will stick around for most or all of 2022 as Audacy continues its attempt to rebuild the once great station. I could certainly see 107.5 in Vegas go Sports at some point but 2022 might not be the right time to pull the trigger. The Portland, Seattle, Richmond, Kansas City, and Sacramento stations will be left alone. I could see Orlando going back to CHR/Rhythmic, especially given the near term sale of WPYO.
