KRXY done?

The stream is just plalying music, no liners, no anything. Which is not like them, for sure. Rumor is that they have been for sale for some time. Main owner Mike has had a few health issues lately as well. I thought maybe with Mixx out of the picture it would give them a bit of a local ad boost, but maybe too little too late? We will see.

The folks I came into contact with at Roxy were always the kindest folks. I tracked mornings for multiple years on their HD3/101.9 translator. At every interaction the skeletal staff was kind and certainly had a sense of humor about the pitfalls of small-market radio. They always sounded great and were proud of their audio quality- lossless audio files and the best that Optimod could offer. Definitely the little station that could. In their glory days they were located in an old bank and used the drive-through as their prize giveaway location. And the old vault literally became the Audio Vault.

Olympia is a tough local market. You have all of the Seattle signals coming in quite well, plus at one time a half-dezen local ones as well. While there are a couple of non-comms, the last man standing appears to be KGY/KYYO, and that staff is very skeletal too.

I did like their creative TOH ID. KRXY Shelton to Olympia to Tacoma. Shelton is the COL, Olympia is the main market area for spots, and Tacoma is the largest city in the theoretical listening area.

Skeletal? Still got some meat on our bones. ;)

What a waste, at least let a regonal owner have a crack at it. Looking at you Lotus
What would lotus do with such a small signal? and whos to say they havent tried to let a regional owner have a crack at it. someone else told me today its been on the market for awhile

Lotus has the old 97.7 signal back when Fisher owned the cluster. I remember that was The Eagle for a long time. I dunno, just an idea. I'd buy it if I had [legal] ways to get the money.

Did they give the station to the "friend when you need one"...Positive Life Radio? I wouldn't be surprised. They are all in on the Portland market (via 104.5) and even the webstream comes from KPLP (no longer KGTS Walla Walla). Next in their docket is to get into Seattle.
This is another blow to Olympia. The Seattle FMs are noisy and spotty in that county - and with Mixx and now what looks like Roxy gone, it's a giant hole to fill.

It’s too bad if Roxy is closing up shop. No, it’s not a huge signal that will cover a market like Seattle, but it’s something local for Olympia. It’s a place to hear local updates on your community mixed with programming you can’t hear anywhere else on the local dial.

The main issue is that there’s not a ton of advertising dollars to go around in that particular market though (especially for a station with a pretty small reach).

I did have to laugh, I listened to Roxy one time and it was a rather interesting mix. It went from Motley Crue to Dua Lipa, to some 90s one hit wonder that escapes me at the moment. lol

I’ve had the same reaction and impression listening to Roxy. It’s definitely eclectic. Unfortunately, eclectic doesn’t always land that well with listeners.

KRXY would be a lot more valuable if they can include Tacoma with a stronger signal or move in closer to where the population is.

Upgrading KRXY would also require a move of KLYK, and I'm honestly not sure there's a suitable frequency for that. A few possibilities do come to mind, but I'm really not sure how workable they actually are. Those are 93.5, 94.3, 95.9, 96.7, 97.5, 99.1, 106.3, and 107.9. Without looking at spacing tables, I have no idea whether any of those are workable for a frequency change to a Longview station.
