KSBJ's Sugar Land translator

AndyWaldrop said:
As we ALL know, with many of these types of broadcasters, the money is "primary." Helping lead lost souls to Christ is "secondary."

That is your own subjective conjecture, which is totally unsubstantiated. KSBJ serves an enormous audience (look at the latest PPMs). When was the last time you reviewed their balance sheet?

Life is too short to be so bitter.

That is a heck of a translator in Sugarland, they are pretty strong in Cypress, and fight it out with the 99.9 from Waco and KSHN. I would think the Waco station would be a real problem for them in Sugarland, and an incentive to move somewhere else. The least little bit of skip and its all Waco.

Yet I can't get the 99.9 translator (or anything besides static) inside the house in Mo City. You must have a heck of a setup to be getting any signal that you can identify on 99.9 in Cypress unless we're talking about a car radio.

If it were as juiced up as you're implying, I should get 99.9 better than 89.3 in the house.

I don't think Andy was being bitter, at all. Just realistic. What started out as a ministry (waaaay back there) has been hijacked and turned into just another entertainment radio station that hasn't conducted a meaningful minstry activity in several years, since Buddy Holiday was ushered out. It really is ALL about the money, at that place, now.

OOO - sounds like a juicy story! Do tell - ALL! In all seriousness, Buddy Holiday is one of the most Godly, kind, sincere people I have ever met, completely focused on Christ and to ministering to people. If he was "ushered out", I have nothing but contempt for the people that did it, because they were very foolish to reject a man of his vision and walk with the Lord.

Since nobody on the Houston board will care if the truth is told, please let everybody know what happened. I was gone from Houston for 23 years, and feared that Buddy Holiday had passed away or something. But - there have been other narrow minded knew jerk actions at Christian stations around the country - the infamous "raid" on WCIE by Carpenter's Home Church for one - this sounds like another really juicy example. Truth can only be suppressed if men of good conscience say nothing. So, please, what happened?

Absolutely no question that Buddy is a true Christian who found much pleasure and satisfaction in leading people to our Lord and Saviour! Spoke with Buddy and his wife at the Houston Radio Reunion in 2008. Buddy, unfortunately, has Alzheimer's (or some type of dementia), which was very sad to witness.

Buddy was not only a big part of getting KSBJ on the air, he also played a part in getting the new Christian FM station on the air in Beaumont, at 88.1, in recent years.

Buddy had been a part of Houston radio well before KSBJ ever went on the air, including a stint at KFMK in their Christian days.

That is very sad to hear. My own father died of that - it is indeed horrible to watch. I remember him from the KFMK days - that introduced me to CCM music, which has had a tremendous influence over my walk with the Lord. Well, I should say the Christian rock genre of CCM, because praise and worship bores me to tears and doesn't draw me one bit closer to the Lord. In fact, it makes me tune to secular whenever I hear ponderous, 4:4 plodding beat. Fortunately, I now have an iPhone, streaming application from radioliscious and WPOZ, and that takes care of the "no Christian rock in Houston" problem. For me. But I hurt for tens of thousands of Christian teens and young professionals who have been shut out and may not have the means to stream real Christian rock.

I was not asking for gossip. It sounds like what happened to Mr. Holiday happened long before the dementia, because frequent trips to Houston over the years seems to indicate that the present praise and worship format on KSBJ happened at least 15 years ago. The fact you mention he was involved with Christian radio in Beaumont leads me to believe he was ousted in a power struggle.

Again, I am not asking for gossip. If the present management of KSBJ believe they acted in the Lord's will, then they should have no problem with the details of their action being widely publicized. After all - they believe it was an act in accordance with God's will - the dynamics of which should lead to a witness of God's power to the unbeliever. So please, let's hear all about the splendid move of God that led to the difficult decision to oust him from the station he helped found. Did he fall from grace and was unrepentant? Was "the will of God" for the station to be praise and worship, and he fought against the "move of God" by representing the original investors (like me)? Inquiring minds want to know! I will certainly reciprocate if you want to know about the "move of God" at Carpenter's home church as it concerned WCIE - I have complete details and will share with anybody who wants to know.
