KSJO sold!!!!

what?? Mexicans cant listen to alternative? I have my birth certificate

As a group, Hispanics significantly underindex in usage of rock stations of any kind. In other words, a station contemplating such a format has to understand that they will get a much lower share among Hispanics than they would in "Other"

The station has been acting as if nothing's happened. During their new music meeting last week, they said that they won't air one this week, but they'll air one the week after and then stop for the holidays. Then, they just brought in a new DJ last week and said that he's going to be doing weekends. And they've suddenly been advertising a lot of "Channel 92.3" concerts - one in Dec., one in Jan., and one in I think March or April.

What does this mean, if anything? Are the concerts their "last hurrah"? Do they just not want to make the listeners aware that they got bought out and could possibly (probably) flip? Do stations usually clue in the listeners when they're about to go ker-plunk? Because they're not. Or does it sound like we might have another month (or more) of Channel 92.3, perhaps Principle doesn't know what they're going to do with it yet and is going to wait until the new year?

Kind of strange how Channel 92.3's website still has the typical CC radio website look, not to mention the CC logo is still on the copyright (I don't think it ever said "An Aloha Trust Station").

It means the same thing as living in a house until a sale goes through; if a bulb burns out, you replace it... you invite friends over for New Year's Eve... you pay the utilities and if the gardiner does not show up, you hire a new one.

To the contrary, it's like saying, "we are already selling this station for a lot less than we paid for it, and we'd like to bring revenue to a screeching halt and lose as much money we can in the next few months until the FCC approves the sale and the buyer comes to the table with a transfer confirmation and closes."

So many people on this board probably assume that if a station sells, that the new company starts an immediate LMA until the sale closes.

There were comments saying that the station would likely flip on the first of the next month as Principle has done with their newly acquired stations in the past. Obviously you're going to change the lightbulbs, but if you know you were going to lose the station in a week it wouldn't make sense to hire a new gardener, or bring in a weekend DJ. If they had a few months left it would make sense. That's what I was getting at -- do these things mean that we have it for a few more months rather than flipping at 12/1?

They have this promotion on their Facebook, that for every 1,000 fans that join, a commercial free music day is the reward. Last one was a few weeks ago when they hit 2,000 fans. They just hit the 3,000 mark, and are going to announce the commercial free day soon. They said they want 4,000. They sure don't act like they are going away anytime soon. We'll see..

Radio 94.7 in Sacramento does a similar promotion

If the history of other acuisitions by the same buyer plays out, it's likely that they will wait for the closing to make any change. The closing is generally within or at the end of the month when the FCC approves the transfer.

Sometimes new buyers will essentially rent to own the station they are acquiring. That usually indicates that a big amount has been put as a down payment and the buyer is well qualified.

In this case, the determining factor is FCC approval of the transfer... and there is no standard time for that.

In the meantime, KSJO will likely continue to operate as normal, as nearly all stations being sold do (exceptions are, for example, cases where the station is losing money and the owner chooses to take them silent if the purchaser is going to do a new format anyway).

You can check the FCC website where the public documents for KSJO will include the transfer approval when it is granted.

http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/altc_list.pl?Facility_id=4117

The application was only accepted 12 days ago, so it's probable that it will be January or February at the earliest that this might be granted... with the holidays, the FCC will take a little more time than usual.

Thank you! I understand a lot better now. :)

It sounds like we are all just a little eager to hear a new ethnic channel on the air..

They just posted this on their facebook page.
It looks like the end is near.

I heard a rumor that Entercom got a right to first refusal on buying the KSJO intellectual property if the sale to Principal closes, though I didn't see anything pertaining to KSJO other than that Entercom had to let it stay in the building after acquiring the studio location from Clear Channel. So, who knows if it's true, but, maybe, there's a bit of hope for KSJO fans.

I still say KBWF to 98.5 and I think KSJO will morph into a station not too different to Radio 94.7 in Sacto, on 95.7.

I would LOVE to see this! KKDO has an excellent playlist that is, in fact, very similar to KSJO was before they sold out last year.

Even from Australia, I usually stream Radio 94.7 or 95.7 The Wolf around home or when I'm out and about. Says alot about the standard of local radio down here, that I have to go elsewhere to get what I want from the radio.

Channel has officially crossed over. They signed off at 1 PM and are now replaced by another alternative format, a DJ-less mix that advertises "SaveAlternative.com". So far, this new mix sounds pretty good, but I wonder if Principle is just running this until they figure out what they're going to do.

Derric "Mega" Tanner officially going to Live 105 middays, as noted on his FB. R.I.P. Channel 92.3.

On the other hand, no disrespect, but I'm liking the mix right now on 92.3! LMAO!
