KSSE Adds English Music

KSSE has added three to four English hits an hour - including the likes of Gwen Stefani, Maroon 5, and Justin Timberlake to name a few.

With KXOL being more in English and less in Spanish, how will this affect the market?

Would love to hear David's perspective.

Appears to be a radio adaptation of "Desperate Housewives."

also added Fergie "Big Girls Don't Cry", Bob Sinclair "World Hold On" (Dance Hit), Chris Brown "Run It", Rihanna "Umbrella" Daft Punk "One More Time", Black Eyed Peas "Don't Punk My Heart", Nelly Furtado "Say It Right", Sean Kington "Beauitful Girls"And usher "Yeah"

AWESOME!

FINALLY, a station that me and the girls at work can BOTH enjoy!

I *LOVE* this idea!!!!

Besides, it really wont be long until the wasps are the minority here. I think that little things like this will really help make a difference in briding the language barrier.

To be perfectly honest, I had no interest in learning Spanish (or any other launguage) until my fave artists were releasing stuff in both languages.

Those teens who fueled the latino pop obsession of the late 90s are now a bit older and have had INCREASING exposure to the launguage each and every year.

I think the time is right. Lets just hope the english music doesnt scare off the previous listeners.....

Actually it makes a lot of sense. The younger Spanish-speaking demo tends to be bi-lingual and linkes both types of music. I agree too, that it helps break down the culture barrier, and it could act as a melting pot. For example, I may be more inclined to listen to KSSE now as an alternative to KIIS, and in so doing be exposed to some Spanish-language hits.

I'm all for it. Best news I've heard since WCBS was coming back.. ;D

Does this affect the entire Super Estrella network or just KSSE in the LA Market?

...not if DavidEduardo has anything to do with it...

He plays Entravision like a fiddle...in other words he "owns" Spanish Language radio in LA...

Stations in Latin America have been playing a mix of English and Spanish pop (or rock, or AC) for the better part of the last 50 years.

The reason for this is irrelevent, however, in the US. Adding English music "üpscales" a station, giving it more A & B socioeconomic group appeal, and less C, D and E. In the US, most radio buys are by demos, not s/E levels, so adding some cuts in English is not going to help (in Latin America, adding English drives down the ratings, but drives the income level of the listeners up).

Of course, if anyone wants to know where to hear Kiss music in LA, they know where to go... and it isn't to 107.1

David knows his stuff, that's for sure.
Personally I think this is a positive developement. Power 106 has been hit hard by a bilingual Rhythmic, and now L.A. has a bilingual CHR.
Interestingly enough, Super Estrella now sounds like a more balanced CHR then KIIS-FM. Super Estrella plays Rock by the likes of Mana and the Killers, and even Dance music by Bob Sinclar, along with most of the big Rhythmic Pop hits that KIIS-FM is championing.

what would happen if KSSE FM Would drop Spanish and go Top 40/CHR

If They Do What Would KIIS Respond to it

But i dont think they will

There is a major, major signal disadvantage for KSSE, as well as the fact that Entravision tends to be a budget-minded operator... hard for them to compete with Seacrest, Wango Tango, etc. Criticize Clear Channel as we may, they spend a lot to keep KIIS billing at the top of the market.

KIIS vs. KSSE is a bit like KROQ vs. KDLD.

Speaking of 103.1, when is Entravision finally gonna get rid of that non core assest(flip the damn thing to Tricolor or sell it.)

KSSE has been their most profitable station and originates for about 10 other stations... that is as core as an asset can be. And Tricolor only works in non-competitive situations... there are 3 regional Mexican stations in LA on much better signals, with much better talent... not going to happen.

I dont care what any of you say, I LOVE this change and so does the people I work with!

THEY PLAY ROXETTE!!! How could you NOT love them!?

Its on my pre-sets now.
