KSSE Adds English Music

On 2nd thought, if we are gonna keep KDLD around, let's go Active Rock. The PPM things will be much favorable for Rock formats anyways, and besides we need to serve a decent ninche, not something that's requested by 2 people on this board.

That's a good point about KDLD... while it has pretty limited coverage, the experience with PPM shows that it tends to benefit alternative and rock formats. If there are enough meters in the area it covers, KDLD could sees ome definite improvement.

THANK YOU!! I so wish LA had an active rock station. The times when I don't have Sirius or my ipod and I have to drive around LA, there's nothing to listen to when I'm in the mood for rock. At least in the IE I have KCAL and X 103.9. There is an audience for rock or it wouldn't be on music channels like FUSE, playing inside retail stores (Muzak), and be on front display at the music store. I can't believe how many ads both Jack and KROQ play. I tried Jack at work once, and I swear, I heard more commericals than other radio stations.

Neel!

Haven't talked to you in so long man. Good to see you're still doing good.

KCAL and X are great stations. Have you heard 105.3 in San Diego, that too is a kick ass rocker!

Meanwhile, we appease two people on this board by playing Atric Monkeys on KROQ and Indie. It's so dumb.

Do your really think Active Rock would do any better than indie?

What would you rather have Indie's .5 or an active rock station with a .5?

The Arctic Monkeys sold out the Wiltern last year and scalpers were getting big money for the show.

If Indie had a signal, it would be a better performer. I looked at the "West Side" region of LA County and Indie has an "upper mid ones" share to a mid-4 share for KROQ. In other words, they have about a third of the audience size of KROQ, vs. about an eighth to a tenth in the full metro. Make your conclusions on what the station could do were the format on a decent and competitive signal. [/quote]

I would give Indie a 1.5 to a 1.7 on a full signal. And that would be mostly coming from KROQ, which would go into the 3's, making for a great sales opportunity. On the other hand, I doubt that AAA would be even a 1 share today, and not directly bring down a top biller and freeing some revenue. I'd go for the active rock option if it were all I could do.

Interesting the Entravision station in McAllen, Tx just became "The New Super Star 101.1" and its mix is 70% English and 30% Spanish hit music (streaming live at www.romantica101.com ). Might be the future of 107.1 Super Estrella in L.A. and the network which are just the opposite now, 30% English hits and 70% Spanish.
