KSUR (K surf) 1260

At night in the Bay Area suburbs I've heard KMZT underneath SF's 1260 just like way back when I was a kid I could sometimes hear KGIL under KYA. But as far as Alaska...pretty amazing.! I hope you sent a copy of your DX to Michael Levine!

Never gotten around to it yet, maybe one of these days i will

I'm sorry, I meant K-SURF. I just listened to their stream a week ago. Has Saul ended that as well? Is it all over?

Looks like it. It's coming up as "not available" on all the sources where it used to live. And because Saul doesn't make it easy to keep track, I can't find what replaced it as 105.1 HD4.
Confirmed by Saul Levine via Richard Wagoner's LA Daily News / Orange County Register column: as of May 22, 2023 streaming ended due to "increased streaming and licensing costs". Wagoner offered three alternatives to stream.

Not mentioned in the article: also discontinued were the "Sinatra FM" and "Unforgettable L.A. (Retro 50)" streams.
Thus, KKGO's country format and the K-Mozart classical format are the remaining Mount Wilson streaming stations.

As I have said on more than one occasion I think the Levines (Mt Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc.) should apply for 1500 khz to simulcast K-Surf 105.5 HD-4, diplex off of 1260 and license it to West Hollywood. And there you go Classical on 1260, Top 40 oldies on 1500. Transmitting from the same location and covering virtually the same service area. One station licensed to Beverly Hills and the other to West Hollywood, communities that are literally next door to each other. And in the case of WH does not yet have it's own station.

I think there are various technical reasons why 1500 can not "beam south" with the first being 1480 in Anaheim and the second one being the 1510 in Ontario.

Well David the original 1500 beam was to the south west from the Verdugo Mts above Burbank. It protected 1480 in Santa Ana, as well as 1520 in Oxnard and 1490 in Santa Barbara. I think the reason that the folks at 1510 have put up such a stink, is that during the many years 1500 has been off the air, 1510 had been working to increase their daytime power from 10 kW DA to 50 kW DA, but the FCC apparently has said it will not act on it until the situation with 1500 is once and for all resolved. The reason I have suggested diplexing off of 1260, which is located in the Mission Hills area of the Valley is that it is only a few miles from the site originally proposed just north of Sun Valley near the Tujunga area. That proposal was accepted for filing by the FCC and in all probability would have approved. However citizens groups in the area protested (NIMBY) as they did not want to ride their horses and have to look at "ugly" (Fybush-lookout!) radio towers. And to quote one citizen "we're also afraid of radiation from the towers". Don't you just love it?
