If you were posting in support of Waugh you didn't present an iota of proof of Waugh's claims of corruption. As he hasn't posted again with any evidence I'll assume he's just another fringe blowhard or perhaps he was a 'victim' of El Hefe's law enforcement.

As much of an ego and photo-op as he is, he has done a lot more than any of his predessors and I, for one, appreciate his efforts. I can take photo-op'ing and a giant ego if he delivers, and unlike El Presidente Dumbya, Joe delivers.

As far as how he runs his jails......I spent almost two years in Vietnam under far worse conditions than any inmate. And I wasn't a criminal. Sorry, no compassion for these whiners and repeat offenders.

Thank you for your service to our country, I have Viet Nam vets in my own family. John McCain is a Viet Nam vet, ask him what he thinks of Arpaio. He detests Arpaio's treatment of inmates and costly grandstanding. Documentation? Google the subject matter and you'll get more back than the New Times (although like the ACLU, they are a pain, it's a good thing they're there too). Soldiers and inmates? Apples and oranges, landtuna, no use comparing them, it rains on the just and unjust alike. It's NEVER ok for an elected official to be abusive just because he can, that's corruption.
J. Henry and I never agree, but this time he's right, this sheriff is awful. You brush off those who disagree with him as people who have a personal gripe because a friend or family member was arrested by him and the other side says his supporters are boomers who got so used to not thinking longer than the commercials during Leave it to Beaver that they eat up Joe's soundbites as they watch the news in Sun City.

I'm pretty conservative, and I think Arpaio is a posturing, arrogant tool.

I think he will end up in jail someday.

As for Vietnam, thanks for your service, I was in Hanoi, Halong, Hue/DMZ area and Hoi An/Danang a few months ago, and have been to Saigon, Dalat and Nha Trang. Its a fascinating place to visit and it really is an education going there.

McBush is a politician as is El Jefe so believing one over the other doesn't make any sense but probably says more about McSame as a victim of imprisonment than anything else.

In any event, the words posted here were 'corruption' which carries penalties against the accuser if not proven. I simply asked the poster to prove his statement. To my knowledge neither arrogance nor ego are illegal.

You probably need a lawyer to define the difference between lawful and unlawful 'political abuse' but AFAIK enforcing the laws of this county, even if applied somewhat unevenly at times, would not qualify. If the voters disagree with El Jefe it is easy enough to elect another sheriff. It seems so far there are more happy than unhappy voters.

My old digs were in and around Danang, Chu Lai and Nha Trang. I've often wondered what that area looks like today. I remember beautiful pink sand beaches (but green, nasty and very warm seawater).

From Danang past Hoi An is all beautiful beaches.

And, now condos and mega resorts being built.

Nha Trang is the scuba and beach spot. Hotels, trips out to the islands, etc.

Very little reminders of 40 years ago, Danang airport is our old base, all the concrete bunkers still stand, much like in Saigon.

I went to Khe Sahn, up highway 9, pretty surreal, past razorback and other hills.

Every vet I know that went back said it was worth it.

I clearly remember one afternoon off the coast of Nha Trang in '65 while our 5-inch guns were pounding some VC's inland that if only there wasn't a war going on that beach would be a great place for a resort.

I don't think I actually believed it would happen in my lifetime.

Hope no one steps on any UXB's. Just my ship alone fired many tens of thousands of 5"38 HP into that area.

I've toured the tunnels up north of the DMZ and the Cuchi tunnels and there are still craters from the B52's. You can see the difference in growth on the hills due to Agent Orange too.

Nha Trang is fantastic, I would have gone there this last time, but a hurricane was bearing down on it. $20 a night will get you a room overlooking the beach, A/C, hot shower, cable TV, refrigerator and a big bed. Its an amazing place.

That is impossible for me to visualize. Might have to make a pilgrimage one day.

Two weeks ago I went to a new haircut place. My barber was a 30-ish Vietnamese woman who was one of the last boat people out of 'Nam in the 70's. Took her four times to escape. Her dad was an ARVN officer so life wasn't worth living once the NVA took over. Her stories were truely fantastic.

Landtuna, again, thanks for your service. I was on GUAM in 74-75 with the Air Force and we were evacuating Vietnamese refugees at the end of the war in 75. We had 50,000 refugees being processed fed and housed on Guam and eventually back to the states. It was an incredible time. My roommate went to Saigon 2-3 times to help evacuate from the air base there. He said they were dodging mortar fire while packing people in planes. I never made it to 'Nam, closest was the beautiful Phillipines.

I also pulled some part time hours on local Guam radio and tv off duty on my 15 month tour there.

Another interesting sidebar, I met the Admiral of the Pacific Fleet on Guam during all those Vietnam evacuations......his name was G. Steven Morrison, Admiral Morrison, turns out he was JIM MORRISON of the "DOORS" father !

During my WestPac cruise (65-66) I had a good buddy and fellow radioman who hosted an overnight show on AFRTS Agana, Guam. I still have his aircheck tape. The quality isn't very good since atmospherics were terrible all over SE Asia. The show was called 'Nightbeat'.

I don't remember being able to receive any other commercial radio from Guam (since we weren't usually too close) and we didn't have TV receivers aboard ship in those days.

I never made it to Guam but did visit the beautiful Philippines like you.

Quite a story about Admiral Morrison. I didn't know that. We didn't get many admirals on the destroyer.

When on Guam in 74-75 we had AFRS radio at Andersen AFB where I was stationed and there was another AFRS radio station at the Naval Communications Station on the Island. So, the NAVY & AIR FORCE had their own stations....trouble was they were only about 10 watts a piece and the signal barely covered their respective bases.

I worked the commercial station in Agana, KUAM-Radio & TV part-time. I remember they used to ship in episodes of TV shows from San Francisco and play them back on the island a few days late from the states......guess satellite's weren't too reliable or unavailable across the Int'l dateline back then....? and it was only 30 some years ago...?
