KTAR Big Announcement on 9 September

KTAR has been running a commercial saying to tune in on Wednesday 9 September at 9:00 AM for an announcement that a Valley talker will be returning to the airwaves after months of being off. The music was kind of rock & roll. At first I thought it was Dave Pratt but then thinking it would be Darrell Ankarlo finally taking his show back.

KTAR can’t afford Pratt. Plus, Bonneville continues to make employment and budget cuts. The announcement must be Ankarlo. As for Pratt, he may have priced himself out of the market. Anybody working on the air today must be willing to dance for low money. Unlike the rest of us, Pratt doesn’t need a job, and his big ego won’t allow him to work for Ankarlo or for Mac and Cheese money. And try to tell Pratt that he is going to work out of drive time. Good luck! Keep in mind that he has already turned down several offers. On the other hand, and reality can be hard to swallow, Pratt would bring immediate success in ratings and revenue to any station. The problem is that he knows it.

Ever since KTAR move to 92.3 from 620am. Their ratings hasn't been that good. Do you think Bonneville will move news/talk 92.3 back to AM?

When they do, it won't be to 6~Twenty...they've got that kiloblaster at 8~Sixty primed and ready to go!

No, because KTAR-FM was tied for 6th among Adults 25-54 in the July ratings book - I doubt they would be in the Top 10 in that demo if they were still on 620 AM. (Their primary competitor, KFYI 550 AM, ranked #13 among Adults 25-54.)

See this thread for the Top 25 ranking in that demo, and a couple others.

Y'know who we probaby COULD bring back-Frank Baranowski...

Seeing as Frank is dead...well, with Frank, he'd find a way. My father got to be a friend of Frank, now they are both on "The Other Side" wooooo

If KTAR REALLY wanted to get Pratt, they could 'make him offer he can't refuse.' KTAR could lay off staff, offer Pratt part ownership in the company, a home studio, any shift he wanted, etc.

KTAR could afford Pratt, they choose not to spend the money.

Kudos to Ankarlo for enduring all that he has, but I have to honest....Darrell still sounds terrible. He was slow and slurring at moments, and sometimes seemed confused.

Surprising that KTAR would put him back on the air, full-time, in such condition....at least for the long-term.

Listened to Ankarlo talking with Bruce St. James and Diane Brennan. I don't get the chance to listen to Ankarlo much so can't necessarily say if he sounded different, but he did seem unsure. He said he was on the radio for about a week after the car accident then everyone realized there was a problem and he took leave. We will see if he stays on or has to take another leave of absence.

According to the KT'R web site, Aunt Carlos will roll 9a-11am, 9a-11am, 9a-11am on Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays. No mention of who covers the final hour on those days and who gets a stab at Wheel O' Hosts on Thursday and Friday. Gee...maybe the Master Blogger can lure Grant Woods back for another rivetting episode of "Generally Speaking"?! As the Nurse Czarina and I suggested a while back, move Glenn Beck to 9a-Noon and give us Aunt Carlos Afternoons!
