KNX is whatever bastard son of newstalk DGH has planned this week.
???
Who or what is DGH? Every time I tune into KNX (at night, of course), I hear news so I'm not sure what you're saying here.
Nightime is the only time KNX is even a shadow of itself.
You know what, though? I think DGH has changed course (again). The wizard has beefed up the resources and upped the IQ-level about 40 points on the "talk segments" that KNX replaced news with. Some of them are still goofy, some of them a bit more cerebral.
After getting rid of the capital N newspeople ay KNX, Hall continued his KFI-ification scheme by hiring chripy newsreaders and gutting the field reporter ranks. Afternoon anchors are sent to field anchor from Camp Pendleton - another loser TV gimmick: you can always spot the lowest rated TV station news operation: their anchors are out anchoring at some contrived media event.
Now, he appears in public and says his biggest competitors are NPR stations. the station is suddenly doing "think pieces" and fewer book author junket interviews. The news segments suddenly are more interesting, more relevant.
Of course, KNX at best doesn't even begin to approach its sister KCBS 740 on a slow bay area news day.
But, just when I think KNX might be reliably listenable again, they pull something like last Thursday, when they abandoned their news format during morning drive for
in studio guest Weird Al Yankovic for a half hour reminder of why ther Dr. Demento Show isn't on LA radio any more. They even TALKED OVER THE FIRST MINUTE OF THE CBS HOURLY to squeeze in one last Deeeemented segment.
Ha ha. Note to self: double KCRW check.
But, say what you will about KNX, it
still comes in on 1070, even in Buckeye.
