KTIB flips

640 KTIB Thibidoux is now of all things gospel. Like we need another gospel station. Oh well now I have nothing to listen to again except for 1260 Baton Rouge.

As I predicted in the first part of April came up toward the end of the month of April apparently.

However kind of makes me wonder how long she can keep the station going with the problems the station has had in the past, as well as the fact that we have 94.9 coming from a tower maybe 10 miles away from the KTIB transmitter with the same format (and more advertising in this area) as well as KBZE who does gospel programming on his station occasionally (with the other programming he features such as Black talk) with a pretty good signal into Thibodaux when conditions allow.

RFLA -

FYI - IF YOU CHECK KBZE'S WEBSITE, THEY PROGRAM GOSPEL MONDAY THRU FRIDAY FROM 9AM TO 11AM WITH THE DONNIE MCCLURKIN SHOW.
ALSO, A LADY FRIEND OF MINE PICKS UP THE STATION IN HER HOME, CLEARLY, IN THIBODAUX, 24/7....SHE SAID THEY ALSO CARRY NICHOLLS STATE ATHLETICS, SO APPARENTLY THEY APPEAR TO HAVE A PRESENCE IN THIBODAUX...

I'm not knocking KBZE

1- The station plays a variety of stuff and gospel is albet one of the things they air. I was just making a comment, as I know many listen to this station and 94.9 in Thibodaux. Two stations which I figure would get more recognition with the advertising they have done over the years in the area compared to KTIB in the past 3 years if you discount the station's van parked in the same spot on the bayou side for the past 5 years.

2- KBZE comes in great in Thibodaux except during tropo conditions which we've been having lately (as the station is not meant to provide a city grade signal over Thibodaux). Hell even the big stations in Houma and Larose are having issues in Thibodaux recently so I should have rephrased myself in that half of the comment, but no harm was meant.. thanks for pointing it out gymjock.

...SHE SAID THEY ALSO CARRY NICHOLLS STATE ATHLETICS...

What's terrible is the fact that Nicholls states radio station can't carry their own sports games. Sure KBZE has a better signal but KNSU is their own radio station. Last I checked, they had decent coverage over Thibodaux and such.

KBZE is a better home for Nicholls sports. No competition with KNSU.

Here's a lil bit about KNSU: Nicholls State's radio station is called "91-5 The Edge." I was a jock on there a few years during my time at Nicholls. Back then we played new rock, punk, alternative, etc. Nowdays, it's a number of different formats throughout the day and night, catering to the different walks of life on campus. They've even got new equipment now; a tuned antenna, a fully restored signal, new mics, etc. Surprised me when I heard about that!

But quite a few problems plagued that station while I was there, including the funds they get from the school. Was $2.00 per student... and that ain't squat to pay for anything, much less an engineer to fix anything. The school didn't care to help it survive either. Heck, back then we had some old equipment. Boards with radial knobs instead of sliders (gotta love 'em), an Orban Optimod 8100A (nice piece of equipment though-wish I had one to experiment with!), rusty microphones, etc. On a good note, we worked hard as heck to get it on the air 24 hours a day with automation, and we did it. And just when we thought we had it all going good for us (with the exception of the antenna needing retuning), lightning supposedly hit the tower, fried the exciter, and set us back again. We were 10 watts after that, at best. lol :p Could barely pick us up off campus! What was unfortunate was there was always something that set us back from working toward being a totally reliable radio station. There were always equipment problems or malfunctions and no assistance or concern from the school.

Anyway, back to the topic. The main problem with KNSU is their signal. It's only 250 watts, non-directional (about a 27-mile coverage area). We were lucky when we got a call for a winner or request from someone in Houma. The signal is just not strong enough for airing the games. With only 27 miles of coverage, you're close enough to just go see the games in person. And the school surely isn't going to invest in remote equipment to do it. Just isn't worth it to them or the area's residents.

Sorry this was so long. Just felt like sharing.

well there may still be some suprises at KTIB now know as JOY....they are keeping some of the current programming like Moon, and Louisiana Network News. They are also looking at returning some of the former "news/talk" programs from the past, we will have to see how that turns out. Although the music portion may be a change, its at least going to be a bit contemporary....I say as long as they stay community oreinted it may work....

Heard Savage is banned from the UK actually...

But anyway, To answer Jeramy, 91.5 WTUL kind of kills them being on the same frequency as well as KPAE up in Erwinville So they are shoehorned on a frequency where catching the station in Gray is a accomplishment anymore

On Jamz 1970 comment. My question is I see they are trying for a full service station like KKAY up in White Castle (or like KBZE is to the African American community in the tri-parish area) which plays a little bit of everything (Moon followed by gospel for instance on KKAY if I remember the schedule), My question would be if the community is willing to fund a station like that, as KKAY has a distinction of being live and local currently in a community that is not really served by anyone else compared to KTIB. Currently Joy is running a gospel format during the times I tuned in and will be apparently Soul music outside of talk times according to it's website, and I was wondering if you knew which way it would lean music and other wise considering I find the talk hosts would probably white conservative compared to the what sounded to be Black gospel when I tuned in (Or at least over modulated gospel)?

RFLA - PERHAPS YOU STILL HAVE NOT CHECKED INTO KBZE'S WEBSITE....THEY'RE ALL URBAN..DON'T SEE HOW YOU CAN COMPARE THEM TO KKAY AM IN DONALDSONVILLE....THEY'RE IS NO PLAYING A LITTLE OF EVERYTHING AT KBZE, AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT THEIR WEBSITE SAYS...

ALSO, RE-KTIB, REJOICE SOUL FOOD ISN'T SOUL MUSIC....REJOICE SOUL FOOD IS A CHRISTIAN SYNDICATED FORMAT, FORMERLY A PART OF ABC RADIO NETWORKS...HOWEVER, ABC DID NOT MAKE MONEY WITH THE GENRE, SO THEY CANNED IT - BUT A FEW OF THE DIE-HARD EMPLOYEES WITH THE FORMAT LAUNCHED THEIR OWN COMPANY, WHERE THE SYNDICATE THE REJOICE MUSICAL SOUL FOOD

re - 94.9 - not to my knowledge...i know they were using Yolanda Adams' Morning show....good point though, smashed, if they are!

What I meant to mean is full service meaning syndicated and local talk shows, as well as the urban contemporary during the weekday and Gospel if I remember 9-11 weekdays, some on Saturday and I believe almost all day Sunday (http://kbzegospel.com/indexold2.htm), but I find the station or at least from what I had heard of it from listening was kind of a full service to a point in that they are a more than just one straight ahead format (say a urban only like in New Orleans) . To me Full Service means serving more than just one flavor or style (I may not be up on what other Urban A/cs are doing, basically basing what I see from the NOLA and BR market for that), and that's what KBZE is to me in my opinion.

Actually giving the station kudos, as many of the stations out there in a market the size of ours would be just Sat fed.

It seems like I have a habit of making it come out like I hate the station, I don't, I might disagree on the signal and that's about it.

Didn't realize the rejoice soul food was a nationally syndicated gospel station aimed at African Americans (got that from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rejoice!_Musical_Soul_Food) Thanks for the info...

But it still makes me ask for curiousness more than anything, If this station will be able to juggle it's load of programming and make people want to listen and buy, As if it would work out, I figure it would be as successful as say KKAY or other full service stations out there. As we will have programming aimed more white conservative during the day and at some other times, more african american ....
