KBZE is a better home for Nicholls sports. No competition with KNSU.
...SHE SAID THEY ALSO CARRY NICHOLLS STATE ATHLETICS...
What's terrible is the fact that Nicholls states radio station can't carry their own sports games. Sure KBZE has a better signal but KNSU is their own radio station. Last I checked, they had decent coverage over Thibodaux and such.
Here's a lil bit about KNSU: Nicholls State's radio station is called "91-5 The Edge." I was a jock on there a few years during my time at Nicholls. Back then we played new rock, punk, alternative, etc. Nowdays, it's a number of different formats throughout the day and night, catering to the different walks of life on campus. They've even got new equipment now; a tuned antenna, a fully restored signal, new mics, etc. Surprised me when I heard about that!
But quite a few problems plagued that station while I was there, including the funds they get from the school. Was $2.00 per student... and that ain't squat to pay for anything, much less an engineer to fix anything. The school didn't care to help it survive either. Heck, back then we had some old equipment. Boards with radial knobs instead of sliders (gotta love 'em), an Orban Optimod 8100A (nice piece of equipment though-wish I had one to experiment with!), rusty microphones, etc. On a good note, we worked hard as heck to get it on the air 24 hours a day with automation, and we did it. And just when we thought we had it all going good for us (with the exception of the antenna needing retuning), lightning supposedly hit the tower, fried the exciter, and set us back again. We were 10 watts after that, at best. lol

Could barely pick us up off campus! What was unfortunate was there was always something that set us back from working toward being a totally reliable radio station. There were always equipment problems or malfunctions and no assistance or concern from the school.
Anyway, back to the topic. The main problem with KNSU is their signal. It's only 250 watts, non-directional (about a 27-mile coverage area). We were lucky when we got a call for a winner or request from someone in Houma. The signal is just not strong enough for airing the games. With only 27 miles of coverage, you're close enough to just go see the games in person. And the school surely isn't going to invest in remote equipment to do it. Just isn't worth it to them or the area's residents.
