Salem IE talker KTIE picking up Sean Hannity for noon-3 and moving TRN fill-in Larry Martino 5-6am. Interesting move; although Salem has Hannity on its similarly formatted conservatalkers like KNUS/Denver, but KTIE has been a mess for a long time. Does this mean they will be cutting down on infomercials?
This does indicate the long-standing issue that has been addressed here with KABC's comparitively weak signal (vs. KFI, KLSX, etc.). ABC is allowing a competitor to clear the same show it airs on its O&O just around the corner. Does anyone in the IE clear ABC-I or ABC-E News, and if not, perhaps they should.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt KTIE is getting a lot of specific national buys outside anything that runs on the Salem newstalk network or a dumping ground for KRLA. If they don't take advantage of their embedded status with the LA market to increase spot rates, could it be profitable to superserve the market with a combination of KFI/KABC-style talk, local Morning News, IE traffic, an IE midday report at 11:30am or what not, and a more local feel. Similar to what is done on KLAY/Tacoma. Of course, Salem couldn't figure out how to hire a board op, but someone else perhaps?
