KTXD-TV Dallas to Me-TV February

Where's the required children's programming?

Me-TV tags the Saturday morning "Green Screen Adventures" as E/I. The Me-TV 7-10AM Saturday and Sunday block is E/I.

Looks like KTXD-TV is preempting Sunday morning.

It's disappointing they are keeping the paid religious and infomercials from 12:30-9AM

It's possible that they're fulfilling the last of the contracts with the religious broadcasters and negotiated that timeframe. I'm sure it's just temporary.

I'm wandering if Me-TV will show Gomer Pyle & Doblie Gillis? Because it's still showing paid programming around the time those 2 shows is supposed to be on.

The interesting thing is that they keep Me-TV on 47.4 regardless of what's on 47.1. Last night they had religious programming on 47.1 at 11:30 and The Untouchables on 47.4

Two interesting notes on Verizon Fios:
1. They fixed the feed to an SD feed so now I can see it in my bedroom
2. The feed is apparently the SD feed from 47.4. Last night at midnight I saw Me-TV programming on the Fios feed of KTXD and saw religious programming on 47.1 on my antenna.

So far, I'm disappointed. ME-TV uses time compression to speed up the shows! Sgt Bilko was nearly incomprehensible, and Bilko's lines are so funny when you can understand what he's saying. Peter Gunn slowed down in an opening scene and you could easily hear the bass notes' pitch and tempo drop. So annoying!

Earlier today, I checked several online grids, with TitanTV not listing KTXD at all, TV Guide seemed to be listing what Ch. 47 used to air, and Zap2It seemed partially right, listing religious shows when KTXD was actually showing The Rebel. Also, there's no program info when I try the "info" button on my TV remote. I guess that's another tweak to come.

Looks like the EPG clicked on last night. Only problem is they're only sending out 12 hours of info, so you can't see what's on the next day if you're checking in the evening. I hope they can expand that to at least 24 hours. 72 hours would be even better, so you could plan through a weekend.

The EPG I saw was on 47.1. I didn't check 47.4 yet.

Checked 47.4 over the weekend. Interestingly, 47.4 runs MeTV 24/7, but its EPG is identical to 47.1. So the EPG for 47.4 will say some infomercial or religious program is on, even though you're watching something completely different.

The KTXDTV.com website also shows only the 47.1 schedule. However, you can download the full 47.4 schedule here: http://metvnetwork.com/metv_national.pdf (Keep in mind this national schedule shows Eastern times, so subtract an hour for local times)

As of 11:45 pm Monday night on Verizon FIOS here in Keller, absolutely no programming on either TV'S in my bedroom and living room on channel 18. I miss something? Guide is correct, the untouchables should be on.

Has Verizon said anything yet, or have you tried to report the issue to them?

Early morning programming on .1 and .4 has been dueling infomercials the last couple of days, perhaps longer. Was hoping for "Love, American Style" at 6AM, but, alas, I'm seeing the Girdle-lator on one and the machine that cuts wood and opens beer cans on the other.

They need to do away with the paid programming on here and start showing the shows Me-TV are supposed to air. Shows like:

Dobie Gillis
Gomer Pyle
The Phil Silvers Show

And so on and so forth

At the point of that post, it was very late and another friend of mine who has TWC had the same issue. Had forgotten to recheck it however. :)

Bradskey over at AVSforum noted that "The Untouchables" has been bumped from KTXD's schedule to make room for more religion, meaning we're now only getting 14.5 hours of MeTV to 9.5 hours of religion+spam. Worse, it looks like 47.4 is no longer airing the MeTV schedule while 47.1 airs the religious stuff. I'm guessing the religious broadcasters buried something in their contract with KTXD to block competition with MeTV. So much for my plan to DVR "Get Smart" this weekend

I sure hope the religious contract runs out soon. Some of MeTV's best shows are being preempted, particularly on weekends, and it's not as if DFW's other TV stations have no room left for religion ::)

Other issues: the PQ on 47.4 has declined noticeably. Also, they aren't zooming & cropping the 47.1 image anymore. This enlarged the pillar boxes to the typical size, but at least they've replaced the solid black with blue "KTXD" logos 8)

At this point 47.4 seems to have become totally superfluous. Might as well drop it....

Yesterday (Friday) they seemed to have the PQ issues with 47.4 fixed; but today it's back to 15 fps again ???

I suppose I should be more grateful. Even though we're only getting 60% of Me-TV's schedule, that's still a big improvement over 47.1's former fare. And much of what we're missing is in DVR land (between midnight and 7 AM) anyhow. Plus, there were some nice little surprises: 47.1's upgrade to HD, and an EPG for 47.3.

But I'd been led to expect a full Me-TV affiliate, not a 60/40 hybrid with the old format. At first we seemed to have that on 47.4, but then they pulled the plug on that too. So despite the new shows, I still feel disappointed. At a minimum the KTXD staff managed expectations rather poorly IMO.

BTW, question about E/I programming: on Saturdays KTXD seems to be airing Me-TV's E/I block from 7-10, but according to the EPG, on Sundays it's religion all the way to 10 AM? What happened to the other three hours of E/I programming per week?

The PQ issue is the big problem for me. I think it's pretty clear the 47.4 programming was changed due to the fact cable systems were using that for the SD version of the station and the contracts with the religious broadcasters require them to be available on the cable feed of KTXD. I think the new KTXD logos on either side of the screen look kind of small market....which isn't really a surprise when you consider who is running the station.

47.4 still at 15 fps today.... They really need to get that fixed; it's gotta be very distracting for SD cable viewers.

The religious shows are guaranteed revenue. Even if they're not bound by contract to carry them, they're prolly gonna keep them for a bit until they're known in the market and have ratings data they can use to see local commercials.

Also ... their website indicates they're planning some sort of newscast/talk show. Interesting ...

They're also supposedly picking up the Crook&Chase show at some point. Haven't seen it yet, though.

I think this is good. I certainly don't mind having some local and/or regional content. To me it makes sense to preempt, say, one hour of a two-hour block of a show seen all over the dial like I Love Lucy, for either a local show or a show like Crook&Chase with regional appeal. Even if the shows don't happen to appeal to me personally.

Figures

After I praised KTXD for getting an EPG on not only Me-TV but also Mexicanal (47.3), the damn EPG hasn't worked on any subchannel all this week. Oh, after one good day (Friday), 47.4 has been at 15 fps since last Saturday.

I sure hope these guys & gals can get these bugs worked out!
