KUHA/KUHF new programming schedules released...

Been listening to KUHA for a little bit this morning. Audio is more pristine compared to the KTRU days, but I think they need a bit more compression to match what they were doing on KUHF. However, all I've heard so far is very lightly scored musical pieces, nothing yet with full orchestra, so I can't make a final judgement. Given the weaker signal, huge dynamic range in the audio might not be a good thing, despite the acoustic rigors of the Classical format.

I think they cranked up the compression, because it's louder now.

I hope they decide to put the translator that was included in the sale down here in the Clear Lake area.

I don't think they could pull off a move like that with the FCC. Stranger things have happened, but I just don't see how you could sign 91.5 back on with a pattern much different from how it's currently licensed without interfering with something adjacent.

The audio is still a work in-progress. What you're hearing right now is just barefoot processing. Now that it's up and running; there's a better feel for what it really needs. After all, no one knew what it would sound like running classical music through a 20-year old analog transmitter, designed for an AC format. Give them time to finish the shakedown cruise. It'll get better.

Audio sounds much better at a late evening check. This morning the audio was way too low, and quiet passages were literally down in the noise floor. Music now sounding more like it did on KUHF.

You think they would have done some late night tests prior to this morning to check audio and make tweaks. After all, they closed on the sale two weeks ago.

I suspect a new transmitter is probably on the "to do" list for the not-too-distant future.

I can think of some reasons why the engineers wouldn't have enough hours in the day to do that, so I won't throw them under the bus. I'll just say they did the best they could under the circumstances.

But given the limitations of that signal, it's almost genius: sign it on with the modulation down in the dirt, so when you raise it, everyone will say you improved the signal. :p

They were testing on Thursday around 11a. 91.7 was abruptly flipping back and forth between BBC Radio and what I assume was KUHF's HD-2. Obviously two different feeds as the announcer would be in mid sentence on the BBC feed and all of a sudden it switched over to the middle of a Classical piece. This lasted about 30-45 minutes, and kept going back and forth between the two feeds. The station went dark again just before noon. That was the only time I found 91.7 on the air during the two week hiatus.

Interesting. Hadn't heard anything on 91.7 between the KTRU signoff and Monday morning. Thought they would do a bit more testing.

Nothing on 91.5, so I guess the translator will be off until a new location is found.
