KVCE 1160

Just how long will they keep this poor thing on air?
I've never seen it show up in the ratings book.

What formats do you think could work on 1160?
I was thinking Classic Country
Or maybe even True Oldies.

If it was my station, I'd take a look at where the signal has the best coverage (HEB, mid cities) do some research into what the people in that area like, and then super-serve them. Local news and traffic specific to that region. Extra attention to weather in that region. High school football games for area schools. School lunch menu. Obituaries.

Think about this:
Outside of Dallas and Fort Worth, local electronic media pay little attention to the other 70 city governments in the metro.
Local advertisers specific to the mid cities could find local listeners, without having to pay cost per thousands for people not in their market area.
It's a lot easier to market and sell in a smaller geographic area.
You could form a closer connection to your audience by more specifically targeting them with information relevant to their lives.

Waddaya thinK? Or should we knock down the towers, sell the copper ground wire, and turn the station into a cow pasture?

Being on KVCE: was like being at a bar just before closing time and all the pretty women have left, your options are limited -Neal Boortz (has been a few years, slightly paraphrased).

They have at least one great show on...Ray Lucia

There are several stations in the D/FW area that I think would work with this approach. KMNY 1360 is another example. The station is licensed to the City Of Hurst and I'll bet there aren't more than 100 people in Hurst that know that fact about KMNY, but if the programming was right for Hurst, not to mention Bedford, Euless, North Richland Hills, Keller, Southlake, Colleyville, and Grapevine, I think there is a good audience there for high school sports (games) and many other community activities, news and traffic. I would think that just for sports, the advertising dollars could be strong.

KMNY is the biggest AM trajedy in the metroplex. We need an all business station, its perfect for that.

High School sports, local community coverage, micro broadcasting/netcasting in general still takes MONEY to make possible.

And besides with improved cell phones and wireless devices, someone with the courage to attempt a local-cast service will choose that as a distribution platform.

All it takes is a visionary with a great business plan, the $$$ to back it up and the ability to work 27 hour days to make it happen.

And then some corporate entity will come along, buy it, and screw it all up.

Actually there are two really good shows on KVCE:

Ray Lucia and mine! ;D

I only have a couple of complaints:

1) I wish they would stick to an identity. The Humtum thing I think has really hurt them. I'm sure many people don't even realize they are back to talk.

I like the Christian Vocie format they are trying to do but if it stays more toward a KSKY vs KVTT I think they can pull it off.

2) The automation seems to be much better. It used to fire off spots in the middle of my show. I could not get any local sales because we didn't know how bad the system would f up the show!

3) We were on the earlier versions of the KVCE and KSEV web sites. Then it was just "network Programing". This messes up things for me so when potential sponsos Google us they do not come up in the search!

Also, when we tell them we are on in Dallas and Houston they look at the sites and think we are "lying" to them.

(BTW, New KVCE site now lists USA Radio Network but not us again!)

4) They picked up the Alan Hunt Show. It goes over into my hour 1 & 2 and we are only on live in the 3rd hour at 11pm.

Alan is in best of but we are on live!!!!

With the right promotion we could really get people behind both us and the stations plus have callers smoking the phones from Dallas alone!

Don't get me wrong. I REALLY appreciate the relationship I've enjoyed with both stations. But we can do SO MUCH BETTER together with the right people in place and a common ground to make it a win for everyone.

Oh and listeners and revenue wouldn't be a bad idea either! ;D
