And then there was the time Nick Koster (a fairly well-known jock) called me while I was on the air to check the weekend schedule posted in the studio. I had to tell him he was nowhere to be found on the schedule. He said, "I don't understand; does this mean I'm no longer working?" I told Nick he would have to ask managment about that. He asked me if I would do it; I did, and was told "well, duh...if he's not on the schedule, he's not here anymore." I suggested it might be nice if somebody from managment would at least call him to tell him. I don't know if they ever did.
 
Thank you, CTHank, for your support. If Jay Shannon didn't want a Saturday Country Gold Show anymore, he should have just said so. I'm a big boy; I can take it. I was going through format changes when he was still crapping in a diaper. But, to tell me in one breath that I'm still "on board," but don't play anything older than 1970 was a real chicken-s--t way to get me to leave. Pam McKay was even nice enough to email me then and ask if I would like to come down to discuss it. I declined, knowing it was pointless.

I was coming back from a weeks vacation one time and heard a promo about the show I was producing changing time slots from mid to early morning. When I got to work I mentioned that I was about to move to the early mornings once again and he said that he was going to be producing that show when it moved. I waited the entire day for someone to actually tell me I was being fired/laid off and no one ever did. Luckily the chief engineer had decided to hire a full time assistant and asked me to take the job. When I asked him if the station management had talked to him about my situation he said no he just thought I would be good for the job. To this day I have never been told I was fired.
 
Well i don't know if anybody is still reading this thread, but I had a few minutes down time and thought I'd look in on the discussion.

As long as I'm here, I thought I'd give an update on what's happened since my dismissal from Total Traffic.

We've had a very successful high school football season at K-MAC Sports. We've produced high quality video and audio broadcasts and have been giving the "big boys" of local media a real run for their money. Actually having the time during the week to put into the company for the first time ever has really made a difference this year.

I've also just been hired as Texas Operations Manager for High School Cube (www.highschoolcube.com) an up and coming company that provides a platform and production services for broadcasting high school events like sports, band, drama..etc.. It's pretty much a dream job for me! I set my own hours. I do work that I love. I make MUCH more money than I ever did at CC. I met the CEO through a partnership we had between HSC and K-MAC and things grew from there. Had I still been working split shifts for Clear Channel, NONE of this would have ever happened.

I just wanted to reassure everyone that there IS life after Clear Channel. I will always think back fondly on my time there and am sincerely grateful to all who worked with me, taught me and in some cases tolerated me (LOL). I bear no ill will over the way things ended, but I don't miss it at all.

Clear Channel did me the biggest favor of my life by letting me go!

and by the way, no I don't listen to traffic reports. I pretty much know it all so why bother, right?
 
Glad you're doing well Kevin! However, when I saw this thread light back up, I thought it might have something to do with KVET's almost 1-point jump in the September 6+.

No such luck I guess.
 
No worries Chris. You know I'm not a hater. The only reason I even posted on this thread in the first place was to set the record straight. Many people here wished me well and I just wanted to let them know I'm doing ok and appreciate the thoughts. I guess I could have posted it elsewhere.

It's good to hear things are going in the right direction over there.
 
I guess people must really like to hear the same repeated playlist over and over again.

Does it really matter anymore? I recently returned to to radio part time, and it was next to impossible to get anyone to call me up. The market is so different and the listeners have more options. I see big corps doing what they can to stay alive.

Ruh-roh Scooby....the once mighty Vet has slipped back to a 4.6 in Dec., it's kind of sad, what was once a leader is now a mid-ranger, with for the most part programming and imaging destined to keep it there, at least I hope it's billing well...
 
Its sad what this station has become to be. Oh well, just time to move on. I don't even listen to them any more.
