KVIC moves to 104.7

Finally KVIC get's a stronger signal. On facebook they will be moved on Monday.

IIRC-- Univision radio convinced them ($$$) to downgrade 95.1 so that they could move 95.1 from the Hill Country into San Antonio. And 95.1 in Victoria hasn't been the same since. I doubt 104.7 will reach Houston since there's a 104.9 in the Metro.

The change is because KVIC is virtually swapping frequencies with Roy Henderson's KHTZ licensed to Ganado.

KHTZ is vacating its current frequency of 104.7 and moving to 94.9 and increasing its power to 100,000 watts as a full C1.

Since this move to 94.9 would interfere with KVIC at 95.1, KVIC is moving to 104.7 where it will double its power to 13 kw.

No way KVIC will reach Houston, but KHTZ, once it returns to the air, will cover a large area from Victoria almost to Angleton.

The KHTZ signal should be quite good into Houston when tropo kicks in. Has there been any construction activity at the proposed KHTZ site? The move of KVIC would seem to indicate something will happen soon...?

They are simulcasting now 104.7 and 95.1 on Monday they will shut off 95.1. (on facebook)

GREAT! I use 94.9 for my XM Skydock... That was the only open frequency I could find that didn't get interference from anything. Thanks Mr Henderson...

87.9?

What format will 94.9 play - any guesses?

I would suggest hip hop, Victoria does not have a hip hop outlet ever since the beat flipped to the bar.

100.9 The Bar, right?
The Bar seems like a strange name for a rock station.
*Bam!* "Oopsies," said the DJ. "I just hit you in the head with a 101 foot long bar! 101 The Bar."

Anyway back to 94.9, they could launch a Texas country format with people running it who sound professional. KRIK sounded nice and clean when it was Texas country but was running rather unprofessionally, IIRC.

Why another country station? 3 already if you include KIXS in the area.., 5 if you include Houston. Besides that, theirs Texas music programming (or use to be) on KMKS and KIXS.

Make that FIVE country stations (plus 2 in Houston) in the signal area for the new KHTZ.

There's KIOX 96.1 and KULP 1390 AM, both are in Wharton County but also have listeners in areas where KHTZ will broadcast and both of them play some Texas music too.

I forgot about KULP

Looking at Radio Locator it says for KHTZ's 94.9 Construction Permit Expires January 29 2013?

According to Roy Henderson's recent request to the FCC to keep KHTZ silent until the frequency move happens with KVIC, he tells the FCC that he has already constructed the KHTZ upgrade facility and is ready to go. So he beat the January 29, 2013 deadline. Looks like he just needs to get KVIC's move to happen before he can get a License to Cover and fire up his 100kw transmitter.

Here's the link to the KHTZ application from the FCC website requesting that the station remain silent until the KVIC move happens...scroll down for the explanation to the FCC:

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...xt=25&appn=101545245&formid=910&fac_num=27619

Not sure what format it will be...probably anything but Country.

I'm aware of that Fred, but thanks for pointing that out -- meant to imply 100kw of power -- no one makes a 100kw FM transmitter that I know of.

Not really all that much stronger. Reaches El Campo and fades.

For higher power levels they simply add more transmitters and combine the outputs to feed the antenna. IIRC-- When KQUE used to run 280,000 watts ERP they had two 20kw transmitters on the ground and used the gain of the antenna to get up to the 280kw ERP.
