Journal actually hired a brilliant programmer named RW Smith in 2005. Once he figured out that he had very little control over programming, he left. He stayed about a month (if that long), then loaded up his car and left. I think he's in New York state now. Too bad, he was innovative, knew the product (and presentation), and was a really nice guy. If you want to be a PD at Journal, just collect the time sheets, keep the remote schedule, keep the promos current, be sure the part-timers show up, and you'll probably do just fine. But programming, well, that's another story. Actually, probably wouldn't be such a bad job after all. But I expect that this is the case with most radio companies today, the program director's job is mainly administrative. Something along the line of "Would you like fries with that?" (Just kidding, sort of!)
Have a great day.
