KVOO-JOURNAL-PD POSITION

Can anyone here address the PD situation at KVOO and Journal? What happened to the old PD? Has the gig been filled yet? What's the story on Brian Gann and Randy Bush, and the environment at Journal, Tulsa. Good, bad, or indifferent please. What's the straight scoop?

So what I've heard is that the GM is very much hands on programming. And that he wants a PD, but yet not. Someone who will come in and get the job done, but has to run everything, every little thing thru the GM. Would this be correct? And if so, would it be such a bad job to work under those conditions? I have worked under GM's in the past that are very controlling....thoughts?

Journal actually hired a brilliant programmer named RW Smith in 2005. Once he figured out that he had very little control over programming, he left. He stayed about a month (if that long), then loaded up his car and left. I think he's in New York state now. Too bad, he was innovative, knew the product (and presentation), and was a really nice guy. If you want to be a PD at Journal, just collect the time sheets, keep the remote schedule, keep the promos current, be sure the part-timers show up, and you'll probably do just fine. But programming, well, that's another story. Actually, probably wouldn't be such a bad job after all. But I expect that this is the case with most radio companies today, the program director's job is mainly administrative. Something along the line of "Would you like fries with that?" (Just kidding, sort of!)

Have a great day.

They aught to call the job "Programming Manager" when they are asking for someone to work for them. It would be considerably more descriptive of what the applicant was allowed to do. If all they want is a DJ boss and paper-pusher to keep the little munchkins in line and doing what headquarters wants, it's a PROGRAMMING MANANGER not a program director IMHO.
