KVOS COL?

Watching a little bit of KVOS-TV on Comcast channel 72 this evening, I noticed a top of hour ID slide at 6pm read "KVOS Seattle" as the announcer said "you're watching Me-TV, KVOS."
A slide with the station's Bellingham address ran 16 minutes later in the middle of a commercial break and also said "KVOS with "Bellingham Vancouver" in smaller print under the call letters.

Aren't they still required to give a correct "legal ID" visually as close to the hour as programming allows? Is making up an ID that says it's from Seattle a harmless marketing trick for a station that now relies on walk-in advertising instead of a sales force? What's the corporate line from the usual detractors on this board to defend this as a clever way to make money and snub the rubes in Whatcom County, for whom the station is licensed to "serve"?

By the way, what's with all the Christmas shows this weekend? I hope the demi-gods of TV programming intend to run more Christmas episodes on the weekend of Dec. 22-25, instead of acting like Christmas is just a credit card transaction and actual Christmas Eve and Day programming is nothing special. Even KCTS runs its Christmas-themed fundraiser shows two months early, but, at least the last few years, didn't air the non-funder versions on actual Christmas. Humbug. It's like the caffeinated clowns who drive I-5 as if they're two cars ahead of where they actually are, and constantly push and push and dodge in and out of lanes, just to get a half car length ahead. Why not enjoy being in the actual moment?

I actually fired off a question via their Facebook site regarding the same thing; but no answer.

(And, ironically, 2 hours ago I was just rounding the corner next to their old bldg to hop back on I-5 SB. Wondered what the inside of that place looks like these days...trotting around an abandoned TV hut would be kind of cool, don't you think?)

To be literal about it, the legal ID must be either visual *or aural*. If they announced "KVOS-TV Bellingham" in the audio at the top-of-hour, then it really doesn't matter what they ran on the video.

Of course, the practice of IDing with the name of the nearest large city at the top of the hour & only mentioning your actual city of license when you're pretty sure nobody is listening is established practice for radio. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised to see it happening with TV...

Technically, they are a Bellingham TV station. But all their operations are now in Seattle.

KVOS isn't for long. The new owners plan to sell KVOS's frequency and shut down operations. It's really, really sad to see that a GIANT piece of Bellingham history is gone forever. I would hope somebody would buy the building and turn it into a Washington State radio/TV history museum (like the California Historic Radio Society has done at the old KRE building in Berkeley.....)

If KVOS closes, who will take Me-TV? KING? KCPQ?

I'd say more than likely KONG, since their .2 just carries an SD version of their main channel currently.

KFFV-TV 45 is KVOS's Seattle sister station. I think might get first dibs on anything.

If KVOS did shut down(which, at least to me would be really idiotic), I would prefer KFFV 45 got it, because while you would lose KVOS, you would gain another TV station in town, which would get you more viewers on cable and satellite then just putting it on KONG's subchannel.

Although the fans of KFFV 45's current spanish programming might object to any changes in programming I would imagine. Also, on KONG's subchannel, are there are any cable companies that carry it? Just out of curiousity.

KFFV airs infomercials on the main channel. I think the DT2 is Azteca, and DT3 is AAT TV (local Asian channel).
