Little Rock KWRF-AM, KHBM-AM To Cancel Licenses

An application was filed Friday to cancel the licenses of KWRF 860 AM in Warren, and KHBM 1430 AM in Monticello along with their associated FM translators.

I would think running AM outlets in towns that are each losing population and have a pretty significant amount of households remaining living below the poverty line (20-25%) is a tough road.

When the population is declining rapidly, the ripple effect is reduced customers and spending at local merchants. Less revenue coupled with rising costs (inflation, tariffs, etc.) is pretty much going to sap much money for merchants to spend on radio advertising.

As nostalgic as I am about AM radio, the reality of it is that Jimmy has four FMs that cover the same area and do well with virtually no competition. It is an economically depressed area, and isn't turning around anytime soon. I can't blame him for making what had to be a tough decision.
