KWXY FM Sold !!!

There are several opportunities in Spanish, as the 30 shares of KLOB and KUNA prove. FM talk would be a potential winner, since the AMs in the market have such horrible coverage due to the ground conductivity and allocations. An FM talker with full coverage could be a winner if they could get good talent via syndication and do some local stuff (tough, as the market is small revenue wise)

I can hear it now, Marshall Gilbert, Joey English and Michael Dante...Hottttt talk. I still wonder why Revenues for PS haven't increased with Cost per unit. Is it because of the fringe factor?

You all miss the point about KMRJ... Alternative is a viable format in the desert, if it's done by someone who has a clue about how to do it... KMRJ had a 4 share 2 years ago... those people didn't all just move away...

Someone else should fire up an alternative in PS...done right it will succeed and make money....

I agree.

M 99.5 was too underground, if their music was more mainstream (Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, Daughtry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, My Chemical Romance, Linkin PArk, etc.) it would've done better. People like to sing along to their radio. Unfamiliar artists can be good if mixed in every now and then, but not dominating the playlist.

Hey gradio....

It was not being too unfamiliar, but actually the lack of localism and promotions that killed M995.. you can't just put an alternative format on and take orders...you gotta work the streets...and they stopped doing that...

...and their sales staff can't sell...period....

I agree. I think it was a mistake to have Adam Corolla dominate that station in imaging and his show. He was basically on 24/7 and that lost the local feel of KMRJ.

But I still think the station should've played some more familiar songs. New and different music is good, but when mixed with mainstream music.

So back to the original post. What is happening with KWXY. Heard the deal might not happen ?

The deal is contingent on the KDES frequency being approved for the IE. No FCC CP, no deal.

Right, My guess is the approval will take at least a year from now. The informal objections from Gold Coast are without merit and the dozens of objections from KWXY listeners deal with formats which of course the FCC does not regulate.
