KXNT/KDWN Question

New to the market and have been listening to both stations and reading this board (I'm an old radio news guy from the midwest). I have to say that I have really liked how KXNT sounds over other stations here. Saw this in the paper and got a chuckle....

A bit further behind in the political talk radio race, Stock's former co-host and Christian right-winger Heidi Harris hosts the morning drive segment at No. 2 rival KDWN-AM (also home to conservatives Michael Savage and Roy Masters most evenings). Stock -- whose station long ago supplanted former ratings champ KDWN after luring Limbaugh into its on-air talent pool -- showers nothing but praise on his former sidekick. But the difference between their shows is grave. While Stock never shies away from taking on tough issues and tougher political opponents, Harris' broadcast is chock-full of emotional bric-a-brac about her love for the troops or what she had for dinner last night. Harris, who refused interviews, is clearly a wandering star next to Stock's supernova persona.

My question is, did Stock and Harris REALLY do a show together? I have heard both and couldn't imagine it!
 
Yes they did, drivetime on KXNT, and were both in the Talkers 100.

In 2003, liberal Doug Basham, who was also in the article you cited, was gaining against them in the ratings. Ironically, as of a month or two ago, in the 8 o clock hour, it's now Basham on KLAV 1230, Harris on 720 KDWN, and Stock on 840 KXNT.
 
Just for the record, I was never contacted for an interview, and therefore never refused one (but of course the author knows that and lied -excellent journalism) Guess they weren't interested in my thoughts...what a surprise!

Yes, Alan & Heidi were together for 3 or 4 years I think. The show itself was good, but I think both shows are better now. Unfortunately, KDWN is at the bottom of the pack, ratings wise, and will stay there unless major changes are made. Then again, I'm just a sales slug. What do I know about programming!

Heidi, I feel bad for you about that article. I would hate to see the planets crash because of your wandering star!
 
Please, Dude, don't feel bad for me, but I appreciate your concern. I'm a big girl. Bring it on! When you do your job in public, this is just another day at the office. Besides, the fact that I'm getting so much attention must mean I'm causing somebody some consternation.

And what better compliment to pay me than to criticize me for being a "Christian, a right winger and a troop lover"!! I'm truly flattered by the attention, and at least they got the call letters right! I welcome all the new listeners who will tune in to "check out the wacko"...

ummmm, First question Heidi.... you said you would never post here like JD always did, why the change of heart?
Second question is where does KDWN come up with the liner that says you are the number one local talk show host?
Just curious.....

Yea, I know he's on at night, but I'm not listening to the radio at night. I guess I could get up early and listen to the WSB stream and hear it live.

Gee haven't seen a letter to the editor in City Life about someone not being contacted about the major cover story article on local talk radio. Maybe next issue. Why would they interview Stock and not the "Stork." Must be a plot by George Soros and MoveON.org?

has anyone heard about Tru Hawkins? Last I heard he was doing a local internet show..but the site hasn't been updated in months? Is he in Vegas?
 
I hear him do voice overs in LA and PHX. I always thought it was funny when a crank caller would call-in on the un-screened Kdwn and make some funny noise...then Hawkins would say "that was the liberal reply" How did he know it was a "liberal" and not a conservative trying to make liberals look bad??? or maybe he called in himself, and made the funny noise? (ala Phil Hendrie)
 
Ok honest question, what do you guys have agenst Heidi Harris? I do listen to her during drive time in the am and rather enjoy it. She's the only reason I listen to KDWN for that matter. Thus why we are looking for another times slot AFTER Heidi. She makes some rather good points on alot of matters. Seems to me people tend to stick on a few topics, and if your not with them, your agenst them. Yes shes for the troops .... and... whats wrong with that. People do have the right to say what they feel, radio or not. As of late, I listen to two shows, and only two shows. Heidi in the AM (I will not listen to Stock anylonger since he started in my view kissing Reids butt) and Casey Hendrickson in the afternoon. I will not after the whole situation over at KLAV listen to Bashum. The guy is backed by the DNC and will only do far left topics, including bashing Epton for no damn good reason. If you don't have something intelligant to say on air, my vote get off.

Not to answer for anyone, but I think some of these guys have a grudge against Heidi because she represents "new KDWN." They're loyal to the old format and the old hosts, so they don't give anything that's new a chance.

Not a fair statement at all, the Doug Basham / Lydia Cornell program is independently produced and distributed...the DNC doesn't control the topics covered on the program...Please provide evidence to the contrary if you think what I've said is wrong...

Doug: And your point is what, exactly? You are aware that I was a paid host at KDWN until I gave them the best Aribitron ratings they'd ever had in the morning drive time slot, at which point I was unceremoniously fired. It wasn't about ratings and it wasn't about quality. It was about ideology.

The only way progressive talk radio can be heard on the air in Las Vegas is through brokering. Not the ideal scenario, I will admit, but how else would the show be heard? Unless you're one of these dumbed down, brainwashed, right wing robots who thinks "If a show is good enough, it'll be heard." Right. Who's gonna' air this show, right wing KDWN? Right wing KXNT? Or right wing KDOX? If you're such the radio enthusiast or listener, you must know by know that talk radio is currently governed by ideology, not ratings nor quality.

Doug: Please. 'Angry' - like 'beauty' - is in the eyes (or ears) of the beholder. If you don't find Rush Limpbotomy, Sean Hasn't Any, Mark Levin, Neal Boortz, Rusty Humphries etc. etc. etc. 'angry', it's because you agree with their ideology, not because their shows resemble 'smiley faces' when they're delivered across the air waves. Reality check, they're angry too.

Doug: And your point is what, exactly? KLAV's income is not dependent upon ratings - they sell their airtime - therefore, they don't subscribe to the Arbitrons. And maybe it's just as well. The last time I did show up in the ratings, they were so good I was fired.
