KXOS becomes 93.9 FM KNAC Los Angeles. ??????

Merlin better figure out how to run an FM all news format first. Chicago and New York both have less than half a share in ratings. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Well look at WBBM-FM 105.9/780/ Chicago and WINS 1010 and WCBS 880 in NYC they have better ratings than any Merlin station.
and of Course KCBS they do better than Cumulus KGO 810 am.

Apparently, Grupo Radio Centro isn't doing very well in L.A.

As long as Grupo can pay Emmis that 7 million a year for the LMA they can do whatever type of programming. Exitos is performing much better than Movin.

Why is GRC referred to as "Grupo?" "Grupo" means "group" and nearly every group broadcaster in Mexico is Grupo Something. Grupo ACIR (A CC minority investment), etc.

The company name is "Radio Centro" since Radio Centro, XEQR, was the original station that the group was based on... going back to the late 50's when XERC-790, XEJP-1150 and XEQR 1030 were bought by "club" owner Francisco Aguirre Jiménez.

GRC or "Radio Centro" are the correct ways of referring to this NYSE (Symbol: RC) listed company.

Thanks for the correction and history of the company David. I just went off the name from other post.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make this a criticism or your post. As you say, it's been the usage on this group since Emmis did the GRC deal.

I'm sensitive, perhaps, as I did my internship at the company, then called Orgainización Radio Centro, when they "only" had 5 AMs in Mexico City. It was an impressive place to learn in.

'i was thinking this the other day, what if KXOS opted out of their 7 year contract agreement, sold the station to Saul Revine, and he flipped it KNAC, I would love to have KNAC back, it never had good ratings cause the signal was a low power FM, but to have a full power FM with ratings in the toilet, its horrible, bring back KNAC, and play Rock music from their heyday, and make it similar like KOST does, play Rock hits from the 80's, 90's, and today, I like the idea, what do you guys think alot of KNAC fans would be thrilled with the idea, im sure, and if i could buy out Jim Ladd's contract out from Sirius radio i would, and bring back Thrasher, and have a morning duo, Ladd and thrasher in the morning 5 to 10 AM, what do you guys think??? just a thought.'

Saul would NEVER do a rock format of any kind. He is crazy - I heard back in '99 he turned down 500 million from Cox for 105.1.

Crazy? Sol built 105.1 when nobody believed in FM. In fact, in the decade prior to his applying for the station, the total number of FMs in the US declined from 1,000 to around 600. Sol immediately established a viable business model and has been making money ever since.

In 1999, Cox was selling stations in LA, not buying. They sold KOST and KFI in August of 1999, and 98.3/103.9 shortly thereafter.

If anyone offered Saul $500 million in the late 90s, it was Jacor/Clear Channel. And he's crazy only if you think it should all be about money. Say what you will about Saul, he's a local broadcaster, and he's made money by doing very good jazz, classical and now country radio over the past 50 years on 105.1.
