KYAF 94.7 NOW HEARD ON KMEN 95.3

Legends of Rock and Roll, 50s and 60s OLDIES KYAF ,BOSS RADIO can be heard through out Fresno County on Mendota's 6000 watt 95.3 KMEN, replacing a spanish format. My question is is this permanent ? There signal is just as strong as KOKO.

KYAF is playing 70s and 80s tonight I think it a Friday night thing.they normally play music from the 50s to the mid 70s.I'm still wondering if this is a weekend thing for them being on 95.3 or if it going to be 24-7 thing.

I see it is, I'm listening to it now. I noticed there has been no carrier on 95.3 for about a week, then I saw Kens post. I guess Ken, you scan the band more often than I do. LOL The Spanish 95.3 had a fairly decent signal here in Old Fig, not quite as good as KOKO, though. opps, no ID @ 10pm. What was the call sign of the Spanish language 95.3? Something similar to KBHF? Radio Locator no longer shows a 95.3 in the valley, other than KLLY in Bakersfield area. What happened? Isn't KMEN on 100.5? Guess I'll have to check the FCC site.
Does Clovis still have their weekend only repeater of 94.7?

I did get the call letters wrong KBHH 95.3 is licensed to Kerman and KMEN is 100.5 in Mendota. So that means the transmitter is closer than I thought.I haven't heard the repeater in Clovis for sometime.I just cheched the tower location its on American ave just 1 mile west of Kerman. I wonder if this is a LMA or Vern White bought it.

It seems to me that the signal on 95.3 is not nearly as strong as 2-3 weeks ago when it was Spanish. Radio-Locator has KBBH on "off the air" status. Hmmm just wondering... Can't do much else from this RFI infested / antenna crippled location. BUT this 95.3 signal with no station IDs is nowhere near as good as what KBBH was doing before it went dark. Signal strength-wise, it sounds more like the 94.7, "weekends only" signal, out of Clovis did for the past 6 months or so. Maybe Mr White is just borrowing the freq. since KBBH went dark(?).
Do you have a good clean signal there Ken? How about without the outdoor beam? Could it be coming from a source other than 'the west side'? My portables had no problem picking up KBBH, but it's a no go with this 'new' 95.3 sig. Just like with the 94.7 that was running weekends only. Hmmmmm

You know what, you could be right on this It does seem weaker that the old KBHH signal. the one thing I noticed though is the old 94.7 weekend only signal was not in stereo, but that could be to reduce the interference with KBOS. I guess the only way to know is to take a drive west to see.

The sig seems to have gotten stronger in just the past hour - maybe they're doing some tuning -BUT the audio has been and remains very poor here. Very mushy, like BAD multipath- KBHH always had good respectable audio.
I've done a lot of mobile signal chasing in the past but never did it for that 94.7 weekender. I never did verify it was coming from clovis, but all indications were that is was. 95.3 is a MUCH BETTER freq for a fresno/clovis metro KYAF "booster". I'll be out to the NW, Herndon/99, area later this afternoon, I'll check it out there. You should be able able to take a tour of the Clovis environs, tuning to either side of 95.3 - i.e. 95.1 and 95.5, (95.2 and 95.4 would be even better) and see if you get some 'KYAF' over the KHOP and KJFX.slop- then you'll know you're close. Shouldn't be to hard to at least get within a city block of the source, depending on whether their antenna is openly visible from the street.

I'll take back what I said about the audio quality- seems my portable's reception is much cleaner when I move to the east side of my place, facing Clovis.. Other receivers with fixed indoor antenna positions have a lot of multipath distortion that KBHH didn't have.

I drove through out Clovis 95.3 seemed consistent with drop off points as well as KBHH and KOKO does, on the adjacent channel I still hear KHOP 95.1 in spots north of Clovis like before, much like KDJK 103.9 with 103.7 and 104.1 ,when I checked 95.5 I did hear bleed from both 95.3 and KJFX.MOFOCAT what was your signal at 99 and Herndon today. Well we will know Monday if it's on the air.

I just checked again 95.3 is off the air I'm getting a weak signal from KLLY Bakersfield.

I drove from Clovis to downtown Fresno last night and the signal was pretty poor by the time I hit 41 and Tulare.

Ya gotta love the "from our San Francisco studios"....and giving out the Firebaugh telephone number. And, if this is KYA reborn, the use of D-C "Boss Radio" jingles.
What a disgrace to Bill and Gene.

And what's this about Verne taking over Cabo Wabo radio?

There wasn't anything but a very weak KLLY at Herdon and 99 at 4pm. So much for it being a West Side signal. The fact that KBHH went dark was just Vern Whites luck since he like to hang out close to B95 for some reason. I don't know what special dispensation ol Verne has that keeps the local 'Radio Police' and the FCC off his back. ESPECIALLY since he does have a legit license in Firebaugh. The local 'protectors of our airwaves' have a direct line to DC to bring the big boys in whenever they detect an 'outlaw' broadcaster on the local airwaves. But ol Verne has been getting away with this for some time. Has to be a n 'associate of Verne's dut to that little thing about being a license holder. He wouldn't want to lose that, so this 'booster has to run 'at arms length', by someone else. The local radio police, that report to the FCC, have "get out of Jail Freee" cards.

So, KENREYC, where were you when you experienced what you referred to here: "when I checked 95.5 I did hear bleed from both 95.3 and KJFX."
That looks like you heard a mixture of our 'mystery station' (95.3) and KJFX, (95.7) on 95.5. If so you were CLOSE at that point. Were you south of Shaw and East of Clovis? (Just a hunch)

East of Clovis Ave. I meant.

But, I REALLY meant to say WEST of Clovis Ave. lol Regardless, and whatever lol
You were in the vicinity of the 95.3 antenna when you were getting bleedover on 95.5.

I was at Shaw and Minnewawa heading toward Bullard when I heard the bleed over on 95.5. So this Illegal signal has to be somewhere between Bullard and Ashlan ,and Clovis ave and Willow.

Verne's studios are at his home on West Los Altos in Clovis, according to information on his website. Errr, make that his "web sight."

Now that we know that 95.3 wasn't KBHH ,does anybody know what RADIO CAMPESINA plans to do with this station? Are they selling it along with KBDS 103.9 in Taft?

Here is the update CVES INC owns Kyaf 94.7 (formerly kajp unit the FCC approved a call letter change in Aug 06 to kyaf) CVES also owns Kaax 95.1 and Knac 93.5. This Corporation is made up of Verne White President/CEO (uses radio name of Chris Edwards White) Craig Knight Genreal Manager, Micheal VJ White Vice President board member,Tavis Robinson Accountant board member,Ray Knight Board of director, Dr Sandi Woodruff Cheif Engineer and Board of Director. As of this date CVES is negotating with a broker Griffin Media to purchase both sation KBBH 95.3 Kerman and KDBS 103.9 Taft, an LMA was in the workings and KBBH was carring only the Saturday night Legends show for a few Saturdays. The holdup is there are many eng problems signal wise w/95.3 and as CVES owns 95.1 engineering is looking into some kind of Freq swap. The Kerman 95.3 barely makes city grade over the city of license and uses a very different antenna configuration that does not work where they are located. There is some discussion on CVES purchasing the OLD KMJ tower and sight just south of Kerman if eng can work out those details then 95.3 could be viable.
As for hearing the Legends show the on various spots on the dial this show which airs from 3p-12mid pst Saturdays is heard on many valley signals 94.7 comes and goes in Fresno due to the B95 splatter from their hi def 102.9 KDPT Dos Palos covers some of north Fresno as well, 95.1 Avenal gets into the fringe Fresno much better with KBBH off air, and 93.5 KNAC creaps into south Fresno but not well with a grandfathered 68kw signal at 93.7. The legends show currently is carried by 187 stations in the US and Canada both commercial and non comms and boasts of large internet listeners on Saturday nights on both www.kyaradio1.com and www.khjradio1.com. This is obivous if you listen as the on air callers are from all over the US and Canada.
Cabo Wabo Radio was initally put together by some of the CVES staff and Shadoe Stevens who ran it until Sammy Haggar pulled the plug if you read the red rocker website he claims 150,000 listeners which I believe to be true. On the other Hand Verne White aka; Chris Edwards White was working on the project since it's beginning and owns two web sites that were originally part of the plan. Since Sammy has redirected the Cabo Wabo Radio website to his red rocker website if you check the records Verne White owns www.cabowaboradio.org and www.sammyradio.com. I know he very close with the Sammy org. so I would not be suprised to see him reactivte this station. FYI he also owns (only because it was developed by one of his employees) MySpace Radio on two sights www.myspaceradio69.com and www.myspaceradio1.com, these are both sucessful and bring in a lot of revenue. As an additional note CVES has signed several agreements to carry all of their station streaming an agreement with the iphone with Radiolucious (simbook) that reaches over 200 million IPHONE users WAUW in the UK which reaches over 500 million potential users world wide, Nokia Radio which is smaller in users. All of these sights with the exception of Nokia offer advertising to be sold by the ststion on the sight. In addition if you notice all of the CVES stations are very close with both USA Radio networks and Dial Global and they are all running Dick Clarks RRR as well as Charlie Tunas new show, The Elvis Hour, Rewind with Gary Bryant, and they are very close with Dial global carriing Mike Harveys Supergold on Sunday night 6p-12m pst. CVES even sold over 400 cruises on the multistation 50's and 60's Rock N Roll cruise which sails next week out of Ft Lauderdale and Mike Harvey and Chris Edwards White are the MC's this cruis is Jan 17-24 09 with another one planned for 2010.
I also know there is a deal in the working to carry the Legends of rock N Roll show as part of the USARadio network in mid 09 this could jump up the stations to 4-500 or so.
Hope all of this has cleared up what the CVES orginization is doing!!! Happy New Year
All of the CVES stations have a lot of internet listeners as well as their terrestrial FM stations

Oh Yes I wanted to clear up a couple things from the CVES side The phone number given out on the Legends show are specific to some areas and are internet phones so they are all remote call forwarded during the legends show. so as someone pointed out there was a Firebaugh number 559-659-0100 and a SF number 415-366-7898 and a San Jose number 408-882-4542 and the 800# 1-800-221-9296.
as for the Legends studios there are several that the show is done from. We have a Studio in Verne's home in Clovis, another in Firebaugh at our Corporate studios and offices there another in Northern Ca Bay Area, an a remote set up in our MCI bus that all do legends broadcasts. We also have a comrex setup for Live remote broadcasts that are done like this coming Saturday Jan 17 will broadcast from the deck of the ship.
We at CVES welcome your questions and comments our 800# is always available, Mike White VP Operations
