KYKX morning show

Still top 40 country as they prepare to go into thier biggest promotion of the year "The Big Bass Bonanza" 2010. Wonder what the folks over at KNUE think about the new morning guys?

as they prepare to go into thier biggest promotion of the year "The Big Bass Bonanza" 2010.

Don't you mean their ONLY promotion of the year?

In all fairness the KYKX Big Bass Bonanza was a very successful event that went away many years ago. When the decision was made for it to return it came back as a much smaller tournament than the original. Over the years this event has gotten bigger and bigger thanks to the hard work and dedication of the staff. Last year the tournament reached so many people that they had to move to a larger location to accommodate the event. It is a credit to the staff that this event continues to reach new heights with each passing year!

KYKX was a great herritage station for Longview. About 7 years ago Sans fixed the signal that it would actually reach Tyler, before that Steve Bridges had built it, so that there was no way that on a 1000 foot stick it could hit Tyler.
So to say that its ratings slipped due to being forced into the Tyler market is incorrect. It was forced to actually compete, and unfortuantely compared to KNUE, and even its sister station KKUS it just couldn't in Tyler. From one amateur DJ to another. The only good people that were on KYKX was Paula Prince, and Danny (of Danny and Dru). Other than that the programming was pretty mundain in comparison to KNUE.
But Clear Channel (love them or hate them) (now GAP) has certain production values that will be achieved, and when you have someone in Chicago or LA doing your sweepers and VO's your going to win everytime compaired to a production guy that is overworked and underpaid in Longview, Texas.

The signal reaching Tyler has never been an issue. The simple fact is that KYKX gave up on trying to compete in Tyler and simply decided to be a Longview station. I remember back in the mid 90's when the GM of KYKX was quoted in the newspaper saying that they would not try to compete in the Tyler market and that they were basically perfectly happy being a Longview station. I remember when KNUE had that newspaper article hanging up in their control room, and they have never looked back.

KNUE on the other hand has been focused on serving East Texas. They have not focused only on Tyler, but have taken over some key Longview events (like the Great Texas Balloon Race). What's sad about this is that they were able to do it with one or two people on staff. KYKX on the other hand had a full on-air line-up, but let it be taken right out from under them. Now KYKX has one person on staff and there is no way they can make up the ground they lost.

KYKX putting on a syndicated morning show, in my opinion, is like waving a white flag.

First of all I agree with the hard work and dedication of the KNUE staff, they work very hard and deserve all the success that they have achieved. However keep in mind that alot of the events that KNUE dominated was because it was a clearchannel exclusive. That has nothing to do with the efforts of the KYKX staff. I have always been a supporter of the East Texas Radio Community and have friends working at KNUE, but when a corporate entity has exclusive rights to balloon races, concerts, ect. it makes it extremely difficult for "the locals" to compete. In no way does that mean the folks at KNUE did anything wrong it's just the way it worked out. It is what it is. As far as KYKX waving the white flag....I think not....I call it writing the next chapter. Let's face it, love them or hate them KYKX is still a 100,000 watt powerhouse that now has a morning show that can compete on a corporate level and a badass in production to handle imaging, liners and spots. I guess the only thing left to see is which way the wind will blow with this new afternoon guy. Just my 2 cents.

It really is amazing that KNUE hasn't had more than 2, and usually just 1 live daypart for almost 10 years....and still beat the hell out of KYKX.

The KYKX Big Bass Bonanza was a huge success...thanks to all the fisherman, sponcors, vendors, staff and general public who came out and made this event the success it was. See ya next year!
