I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this, but ...
Did anyone notice that the 5 pm edition of Reporters Roundup on KYW appears to be completely pre-recorded some days with the only exception being the traffic reports? How you can tell: No time checks, no current temperatures given by the anchor throughout the entire half hour. This is in afternoon drive.
Less surprising: Use of the first three minutes of CBS News on the hour starting at 11 pm, also the one minutes CBS update at 31 minutes after the hour. And also after 11 pm: All local news segments with exception of traffic and sports appear to be pre-recorded.
I also read online that a new public affairs show will air Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m., another addition to the other weekend programs that already air in place of the usual half-hour news format, along with CBS Evening News weeknights at 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. and Eyewitness News on CW57 at 10 pm.
I guess this is the future for KYW. They've cut back staff (the exception being they actually hired traffic reporters). Elsewhere on the web they explain this is cost-cutting before the CBS/Entercom merger.
