They believed they had an opportunity for mostly paid programming in Spanish. I think they were mistake, but they had the financing but did not equal the Soros group's offer.
But how would this work given what you say about different Hispanic nationalities in different cities? I can't for the life of me see them keeping Mambi with local hosts. I think the best thing that could have happened to Mambi was LMN. They were able to keep doing what they wanted to do with no interference. Thats why I say this wasn't political. Salem doesn't do local radio. They own stations that carry their national programming. Even in NYC, they run mainly the national talk.
What was the nature of the paid programming? Political or religious? I understand the religious idea, but not political.
How would those two lower level political organizers have ever found out about a group of Univsion stations that might be for sale?
I'll throw it back at you: How would an international investment company interested in making money have ever found out about a group of AM radio stations? Especially given the past 8 years of radio bankruptcies? It makes no sense. It makes more sense that the women heard about it in Miami, and sought the funding. If you read their original press release, a lot of those people are in Miami. If Salem had bought the stations, Radio Mambi would have gone away.
