KZLA: Buck who?

Re: L.A./O.C. Calls

At least you can put the COL(City of license) to their origins:

I thought about that when I amended the original list, but since the COL has so little meaning anymore ...

BTW, I noticed an error in the original list that I didn't catch earlier. 103.1 Newport Beach was KOCM, not KOCN.

I didn't realize there was an official " - " in the KFMB FM name version.

Well, the Gene Knight page at Uncle Ricky's has a B-100 boogie sticker on it, and the hyphen is definitely there:

http://www.amandfmmorningside.com/socal_area_bumperstickers.html

Note also that it has a sticker from the short-lived "100.3" format, and a Y107 sticker ...
______________

What did KXEZ's jingle sound like and what was the jingle?
______________

'the short-lived "100.3"'
THAT was a pretty good station, IIRC January-March 1993
They played a lot of stuff that Indie plays now

I notice that site is missing bumper stickers for "FM 101.9 LA's Finest Rock"
and also "World Class Rock 103.1".

Did the old KMPC-FM/The Edge 101.9 have a bumper sticker?

OCN was the short-lived Orange County News channel on cable here in the OC back in the 90s. Studios were in the OC Register building in Santa Ana.

The COL for the OC 94.3 is Garden Grove.
______________

Yes.

You'll find a scan of it here:

They weren't The Edge long enough for a new sticker, though.

Just corrected it. Thanks.

Re: L.A./O.C. Calls

I did a little more digging and found something that is somewhat interesting.

The Summer 1958 edition of North American Radio TV Station Listings by Vane A. Jones showed that KFOX-FM was at 102.3, COL Long Beach. As 100.3 was listed with the KMLA call letters, it is obvious that KFOX moved the call letters to 100.3 when they acquired it and took 102.3 dark, then the latter was put back on the air later under the KJLH calls (I say this is obvious because I know KFOX-FM was on 100.3 long before KJLH went on the air).

98.3 is listed with the call letters KDWC. Bob Burdette acquired it in the early 1960s, so I presume KDWC was the original set of calls.

97.1, COL Glendale, is KFMU. Since it didn't become KGBS-FM until the mid-1960s, I again presume these were the original calls.

KNOB was on 103.1 then; I presume the later move to 97.9 was part of the allocation of 103.1 to Santa Monica and Newport Beach.
______________

Hyphen talk...

Ok.

But the San Diego B100 Stickers in the 80's (when the station turned more AC) have no hyphen. I'm talking about the red and white logo from that period.

Never saw it. Can you find a scan of it somewhere?

(Possibly, the stickers from the CHR period were more prevalent and memorable?)
______________

Re: Quiz time/KXEZ

Don't know the answer to your question, but the station failed miserably because it was such an obvious canned production. They did virtually nothing to distinguish themselves from KOST, except to play more Diamond and Manilow, when KOST was playing more Mariah, Celine, and Whitney - that is to say more upbeat soft rock, which was the way the go at the time.

Yes. Both as KMPC-FM and KEDG. I have no sample to show though.

I don't believe there was a KEDG bumper sticker. I would have seen it if there had been.
______________
