KZLA Goes Dance and Rick Dees?

Looks like they corrected it somewhat.

What's your prediction on ratings and spot rates??
[/quote]

This station will kill off KBIG as it has needed to be for a LONG time. Watch them react and put Whoopi on in short order to take the thunder out of Dees return.

I don't expect Star or KBIG to last much longer. They both suck and that includes the new changes at Star. Another p.d. that doesn't understand Los Angeles.

10 more units at 1:43 PM. What, do they want to kill this station already? Word to Emmis, learn what "Less is More" means. And kill off all the KZLA country related spots including those directing listeners to KZLA.com. This is making me rethink if this is a professional debut or not.

They need someone who knows this music in there. The board op either is letting the music die too much or hitting the next element too early too many times. I hate that especially cutting off the natural endings of songs.

Glenn, when a station changes format in this kind of abrupt and unexpected way, what is "typical" of selling ads -- i.e. I assume all the spots were sold as if they were to be aired on the old format. I would assume so since there were no leaks .... So what if the advertisers were not happy about it... For example "Boot Barn" or similar... Or are all the spots ad buys from an agency.... Also what is typical in spot price with a new format... Do they go up appreciably or down...until the new format gets some publicity?
Thanks

If I bought a country format and I didn't get it, I'd be asking and expecting a FREEBIE.

Spots like Boot Barn or Tim McGraw that are still on should be sacrificed if you're going to get this station off on the right foot (or boot, as the case may be).

Ad rates certainly will be lower without ratings but the addition of Dees will help that.

Movin 93.9, the Mix that makes you move...

Rick is back.

It is the "Movin" format from Alan Burns that is already on in Seattle.

Finally, something interesting to talk about here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And if I'm not mistaken, KZLA is owned by Emmis, right?
So I bet this will sound a little like Power106 did circa 89?

And I wonder why they didn't just call the format "Z93-9?" Seems to me like that woudl have been better. Oh well. But at least Rick Dees is back, and that will be sure to turn some heads.

(And we all thought he would end up At CBS or CC!)

Yes, it is Emmis. But it's no Power 106 circa late 80's. Oldest song heard so far, I think, is Funkytown.

Here is what is on the KZLA website, which is still up at this time:

Dear Faithful KZLA Listeners:

KZLA is working to make country music available to everyone as soon as possible. Coming soon KZLA will be streaming live on kzla.com and is currently available on HD Radio. We encourage you to join our "Country Club" fan base to get the latest updates on KZLA streaming, music, concerts and of course, COUNTRY BASH 2006 on Saturday October 14, 2006.

Tickets for the Bash go onsale Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 10am at all Ticketmaster locations and on ticketmaster.com. We encourage you to come out and show your country pride by attending this concert to show that southern california loves country!

IF you had your act togehter, Emmis, you should be streaming KZLA RIGHT NOW, not promising it later after you've lost all your ex-Country listeners. More corporate idiots!

Same Country KZLA request line mentioned on Movin' 93.9 ------> 800.977.1939 I would have changed that just so I wouldn't have to listen to all the disgruntled country listeners.

Another 8 units plus a Rick Dees promo - poking fun at Clear Channel without mentioning their name for letting Dees go - at 2:23 PM.

Anyone want to predict how long 100.3 The Beat will last? I'm hearing a lot of core 1990's FM 92/92.3 The Beat hits on Movin' 93.9 that the new 100.3 The Beat currently plays. I can't imagine anyone listening to that station the way it currently sounds. Radio One needs to leave Los Angeles. They can't bat with the big boys and need to cash out.

10 more units and a promo at 2:40 PM. Plus spots that mention KZLA and KZLA.com. Get rid of them!

They have a copy of the logo up over there as well... not sure I like the "Movin 93.9" name. I feel like it needs an apostrophe. "Movin" is not an attractive-looking word, the way "Jammin" or "Groove" or "Hot" etc. are. And yes, you should think about these things -- who wants an ugly word on their bumper sticker or billboard?

Nobody is going to get tired of a station that has local legend Rick Dees as its morning superstar.

Phily 106.1 has two things against it. One, it is a Clear Channel station. Two, it has Whoopi in the morning. A disaster unto herself.

George Pennacchio lead his entertainment report on the 4 PM ABC 7 Eyewitness News with the KZLA/Rick Dees story.

Re: KZLA Goes Dance and Rick Dees? Let the battle begin!!!!

The battle is on! Rick Dee's will now take on Ryan Seacreast for the "King of Mornings" crown! BTW just when will Mr. Dee's begin? Not one news story has the information, will it be tomorrow? Next week? Or next month?

I'm amazed that none of the regulars to this board saw this change coming! Where were you people? Maybe you all aren't as in tune as you think you all are! lol lol lol.......

Agreed on those fronts, anything Clear Channel you've got to question and yes Whoopi is horrible. Heard her one morning and that was enough.

Rick Dees I remember used to do some kind of countdown show, i forget the title.
